I was going through the messages tonight and I saw an interesting post that caught my eye...

Someone mentioned taking a Penny and putting it between the HSF and the CPU.

Think that would make a difference? Of course it would need to be sanded down and lapped. But also, wouldn't you be in danger of cracking your core with the pressure of having that penny between the two components?

Just get a nice copper based heatsink. I don't think a penty is enough copper to really affect heat that much.

Swiftech has some excellent coolers. Bit pricy!. but excellent non the less.

and the new models are due this month i believe.

I believe it would crack the core instantly, with the penny (even lapped smooth) being inbetween the chip and hsf.

I'd agree with the fly core....just get a copper hsf. Them AMD cores are pretty fragile, from what I've read....

That's definitely a big risk to take for probably a very small or no improvement at all. I'd stay away from that

Even if that were a perfect idea that would reduce temperatures, you would have a little trouble finding a penny that is made of actual copper. I believe they stopped making pennies out of copper at least 40 years ago, perhaps more.

Pure copper pennies have not been made in a while. The fact was, a penny actually cost more then 1 cent to make... So instead they use tin plated in copper.
