hey peeps.

i always used to use netmeeting with remote desktop sharing, but when i installed a geforce pro in my second machine, netmeeting screwed over directx. for what reason i don't know, but i've tried everything and it always does it.

i remember a while back there was a thread about this, and a lot of people seemed to be using a freeware util to do it between their machines, linux or windows or anything. it wasn't pcanywhere or anything like that, and had some short name... an abbreviation of about 3 letters... i've searched for that thread, and came up blank, so can anyone help me out?

I think you are talking about VNC

If you've got Advanced Server then Terminal Services is excellent as well. Won't work for Win2K Pro to Pro though.

VNC is probably what you want.

yeah, it was vnc. i found and installed it in the meantime, but thanks guys! it's quite a nice proggie.. one thing i don't like is the inability to disable the local mouse and keyboard when i'm controlling the machine from a remote location. but other than that it seems fine. a bit slower than netmeeting, but overall it does the job.

That is an option. I can't find it right now when i get a little time I will post in this thread

Edit: When you have the remote comp on your screen right click on the vnc icon in the task bar next to the time on the remote computer. click on properties and there it is. Hope this helps

Edit#2: There are some options you can tweak to speed it up. I have also heard it is a little faster if you controll thru your browser. put it in your browser like this: http://computername:5800
if you change from the default # of 0 to 1 then the it would be 5801.
I hope this helps

i saw that option in the properties bit, and tried it out, but it doesn't work. the vnc faq also says that it won't work. bummer. the browser thing is interesting.. i'll play around and see which is quicker.
