Ok....I have had my computer for almost a year without any issues at all untill these last couple months. These last months I have stability issues with Windows. "WinXP Home" I would like to say it was cause I was doing mild or very slight overclocking in my bios only changing the FSB and the HTT other then that I havent touched much of anything. First time was when I put my FSB up to 250 with my HTT at 3x and multi at 9x, well computer wouldn't even get close to windows. I then restarted computer and entered bios once again to put my settings back to stock settings, I exited to load windows and it wouldnt load with stock bios settings, I then restarted comp and let it try one more time. It loaded this time but it seemed like it took longer then normal. Well I then left it alone for a week or two and I tried the overclocking again, this time it wasnt good. I raised my FSB to 228 and HTT 3x and multi to 9x again and it booted just fine, sweet! "not". I reboot to the bios again to write down my settings, again I exit and load windows the computer would act like it was loading windows the first XP black screen and then it would reboot, loop..... I thought maybe it was settings put everything back to normal settings again and still computer would act like it was loading and then reboot. I ended up reformatting, but still at stock settings my comp some times doesnt load to windows or it takes longer then normal. Please Help I dont know what to do..

Comp Spec:

-Windows XP Home
-Amd Athlon 64 3000+ "Winchester"
-4 Kingston Hyper X Pc3200 (256x2)(512x2)
-K8N Neo2 Athlon Mainboard
-Serial ATA (SATA) Hard Drive 120gb
-Geforce 6600GT 128 AGP

Either reset CMOS and change only those BIOS settings absolutely necessary to boot into Windows. Leave RAM timings at SPD, clock speed and all voltages at default, onboard sound disabled, etc... or try loading either "Optimized Defaults" or "Failsafe Defaults" in the BIOS (without resetting CMOS). I'm not familiar w/ your particular MB's BIOS structure, so the "Defaults" setting name might be called something different... maybe something like "Load Factory Defaults".

Sounds to me either like some Instability problem or a memory speed problem

Did you happen to OC your memory along with the normal OC? Unstable memory can cause all sorta of REALLY weird problems.

Yes id say the day befor this happend i was playin with memeory settings and it was messed up, it wouldnt even load past the first screen and i couldnt get back to the bios to change it. I fixed it by taking all my ram out and living 1 256mb in the dim slot 1 and then it loaded , i put the settings for the memeory back to default and shut computer off and put all my ram back, boot ok after that.

Ohh btw I did try using the bios fail safe settings and still would just loop.

Thanks for the greetings, my buddy told me: "they know there sht"

I'll hazard a guess and say your Windows install is probably hosed. You could try repairing Windows, but I'd probably suggest just starting over with a fresh install, using the Failsafe settings in the BIOS. Then like I mentioned, only change those BIOS settings absolutely necessary for a clean install. Like jcw122 suggested, you could also test your RAM at default SPD memory timings using Memtest... before attempting another install of XP.

That's hilarious, but you're so right... I very rarely if ever suggest a reinstall.

This is a fresh reinstall of windows as far as I know. Any help on the correct way to install windows?

He means it has malfunctioned beyond repair.

1. Back up any important data to a safe location.
2. Set the BIOS to boot from the CD ROM
3. Insert the XP install disk or disc supplied the maker of the machine
4. If using a factory restore disk, follow the on screen instructions.
5. If using a proper XP disk, format the drive as the instruction allow
6. Procede to install the Operating system as shown with the onscreen instructions.

Notes to look out for:

<Make sure you are not connected to the internet while installing the OS.
<Make sure you have any floppies that may be needed for drivers during the install i.e.- SATA or RAID Drivers
<Have a sandwhich or snack while wating for the operating system to install.
