Hello guys,

Well, finally I managed to sell my vid card, at a decent price. Of course, it is time for a new card. As you see, my old card is the 6800GT. I'm thinking of choosing between the following 3 cards.
7800GT 256mb @ $275
X1800XT 512mb @ $400
7800GTX 256mb @ $450

Money, of course, is a factor. right now, the top choice is the 7800GT, which I feel is the best bang for the buck. I manage to find an X1800XT on newegg that retails for $400. Is that 512mb vid memory gonna cream the 7800gt in terms of performance. Of course, it is cool to have a 512 mb card too.. heh ehh heh. I know the GTX is the faster and most expensive among the batch. But it just gets more and more expensive. Help me out guys.

Man, if you wouldve held out 3 or 4 more weeks, the 7900 would be released and all of the current prices you have listed would have dropped. Umm. I would have to say, try and find a used 7800GT for a good price and save your money for something better when the 7900 comes out.

Did you check the classifieds? I think there are some good deals.
Your best choice is the 7800GT, they rest are just not worth the expanse.
And if you can wait do so.

If you REALLY need to play at 100 fps instead of 70 fps at 1024x768, then get the more expensive card. But really, can you tell the difference between 100 fps and 70 fps?

I vote the 7800GT.

something just pop up. what about the x800xl for around $300? How does it far compare to the 7800GT? which card has a better chance of overclocking?

XL's are very poor overclockers and the 7800GT is a whole new generation, it beats the XL with its hands tied behind its back.

opps, yes, thanks for catching that. I do mean the x1800xl. Just wondering how it turely fair when compare to the 7800GT at stock and overclocked.

They are probably on par, with the 7800GT being 100$+ less.

Thank you. You are right, I see most of the reviews and both cards are on par. There is nothing there to justify the additional $50 to get the x1800xl. Plus, as i indicated earlier, I wanted to leave the option of dual vid card open.

So, I just picked up the XFX 7800GT from monarchcomputers for $275 after mir and shipping charges.

out of those 3 the x1800xt hands down !

there was a x1800xt for $400 in the classies not long ago and a 7800gtx for $350 also, I think the x1800xt is the better card, anyone that has had both will swear by the x1800xt

I will agree that the x1800xt is way much better than 7800gt. I'm not too sure if it is better than the 7800GTX. But that x1800xt is about $130 more expensive than the 7800gt. Plus my system will probably bottleneck the x1800xt too. I just put in the SLI option and price into my consideration, so I went to get the cheapest card, which is the 7800GT. I managed to sell my 6800GT for $200, so it is just $75 for me to upgarde.

I wish i have an unlimited pocket so I can get two 7800gtx and upgrade my whole system. My master's program is killing me, since I have to pay around $40000 for it. Money is a big issue for me now. :(
