Help buying 7800gt

Just looking for a little info on what to look for in a 7800gt. I made the mistake of jumping back into building a new computer and rushed it for one and went cheap on the video for two (mainly because the old lady was watching what I spent like a hawk). Well I put 2 6600 cards on a SLi and basically it sucks. I am going to just get a 7800gt but as I am looking at some of these cards I notice some have diffrent clock speeds and diffrent memory speeds. Some also say factory overclock on them. Any input on what I should be looking for when it comes to this? Also any reliability issues with certain brands? If I slide this past the woman I don't want issues with the card to answer to lol. Thanks for any input.

EVGA seems to get a very good rep. My one is Gigabyte and works fine with an OC. I just went for the cheapest in the end and it was good.

I've been using BFG 7800GTs without any problems. . . . The company is also generally aimed at pleasing the gaming crowd. . . . I don't know about the others.


BFG myself... Very satisfied with my 7800gt OC

They are all pretty good. Most of them use Nvidia's reference design board so you will not see a huge difference in stock performance.

The Leadtek 7800GT seems to be the best overclocker, but when I was using my friends EVGA 7800GT I was in love and I highly recommend it. Too bad I'm stuck with a 6600GT for now...

Grab the eVGA 7800GT at newegg for $250 w/ MIR its a great deal, EVGA has a nice warrenty and out of the main manufacturers they often have the best overclocking cards.

I'm using that exact eVGA 7800 GT right now. I love it and simply can't find a game that slows me down at 1200x1024 resolution.

I believe what makes the most difference in card clocks is the memory clocks, then the core clock. Don't be suckered by companies always screaming about higher clocks and such, because many times, other cards already have better clocks. For example, BFG's OC has 425 core and 1050 memory clocks, while the cheap eVGA has 450 and 1100.

Another feature which sold me on eVGA was their "Step-Up Program". Basically, within 90 days from when you buy the card, you can replace it with a newer card through eVGA. They'll credit you back the amount you paid for the card. Then you pay the difference of the new card and your old one.

Both of my eVGA's have performed excellent. My last 4 cards have all been eVGA. Excellent customer support and again, the video cards perform above par! :D
