I have an ATI X850pro right now. I am planning to get a GeForce 7800GT. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130256
I hate ATI. This was my first ATI card and altho fast I don't like it at all. I want to upgrade to a faster nVidia card. I was wondering. Would a 7800GT be all that much better then what I have now?
Should I wait longer for a better card to come out for the same price?
I have a very limited budget and 300 is about my max for a video card. Although I would prefer cheaper I don't want to just get a new card so I can have an nVidia, I want to get a better and faster card as well.
Another concern I had was, I have a VGA CRT monitor and the card uses 2 DVI connectors. It comes with the converters, but will this cause any problems for me?

There will always be a better card just waiting to drop to below the $300 mark. I say get it now.
My 3DMark05 score - 8289.
My 3DMark06 score - ~4000ish (can't remember).

Actually, i say hold off until march - see what the offerings are. The 7600 and 7900 will be out then so i think it'd be a daft idea to buy a card now, that'll be superceded in less than a month, by a card thats the same price as the one you're buying now.
And with a DVI converter - theres no problem with using a CRT.
I'd buy, because any new cards that come out, I'm willing to bet will be well over your budget, and I've heared amazing things about this card, and I am going to be getting one my self, after being an ATI Fanboy for years.

WHY!? If the 7900GT comes out, it'll be the same price as the 7800GT, and better at the same time. If its more expensive, you can always still get a 7800GT anyway, and by then, prices will have dropped.

Also, I doubt that the 7800GT will drop in price a whole lot just because the 7900 is out. It seems (from my limited experience) that it's only when a card becomes 3rd generation that the prices for it drop considerably, like the 6600GT going from $200 to ~$130 in a few months.

While that may be the case, holding off for, what, 2 weeks wont make that much of a difference, and if indeed the 7900GT is the same price (just replaces the 7800GT), then you will have effectively gotten more for your money.
Knowing what card to buy is one thing, knowing *when* to buy it is another :)

When is the exact release date for the 7900GT. I don't want to wait too long. I hate ATI so much. This is my first ATI card and I've had it for about 4 months. I have a GeForce 4 MX 440 for 2 years and I like it better then this card. I really want to switch, but I would wait if the new card is really worth it. Is it really a big improvement upgrading from an x850pro overclocked to 590Corex600Mem.
