Well the patch killed the machine. I am calling in a pro .. the game might not be up again till Friday when she has some time off. i am SERIOUSLY considering ending my reliance on M$ . I installed the patch, the machine Re-booted on its own without even so much as a by your leave. When it restarted it BSOD which is nearly impossible with XP and then when i did get it running my website and forum no longer worked and BF2 server would not lauch.

SO i am very *&^%ing angry right now. I will get the server back up before sunday ... as for my website i will have to figure that one out before she gets here to razz me.

And no i was not hit by a bug since my AV and hardware firewalls' software both reported nothing and and are fully (as in Feb 13 2006) updated. :bang head  :attn:

Was this was the BF2 1.2 Patch? Did you try system restore? You might try using system restore to go back to just before the patch. You may also need to restart in safe-mode to do some troubleshooting. Forgive me if you have already tried all of this. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

system restore is disabled because it was interfering with a mail client that eventually didnt work at all

I have the patch uninstalled and i uninstalled the WAMP server ... i am thinking it is something that conflicted in the Registry .. so i have manually cleaned that

i can start the BF2 server again but no patch ... they dont have verifyers so i deleted the DL'd patch and am now looking for a different site to get it just in case

the ****er is now i have to go through installing all the Web stuff again AND i was about half way to figuring out how to make my forum mail system work ... thats all gone now. thankfully no format turned out to be nessicary

I dont know WTF happened now :bang head

My favorite response to these type of computer problems is " Bits happen, sometimes." :) If you ever decide to go to a Linux server let me know. I'm not a Linux admin but I have installed a few distros and played with them. Professioanlly, I do UNIX admin and most of the skills cary over. This is because Linux is based on a very old version of DEC UNIX that I happen to have used. You may already know that, so sorry if I sound condescending I don't mean to be.
