OK, I'm just full of it this week. ;)

Next idea: how about providing a listing or adding to an existing web page the country and/or state/province for all the team members? Something to give us an idea were we are all located. Would not have to be exact down to street address for obvious security reasons but would alert other members to their "neighbors".

Again with the two part suggestions...

I have seen a couple of the larger teams compile some sort of database that shows each team member, some info about thier systems like the total number of processors and amount of ram and gross Mhz/Ghz output. They then compile the "total" for the team as if it were a single super computer. Maybe a little hoakie but would be interesting to see the stats. Now I'm not really thinking about a live database but rather a static listing (but then I don't do database programming).

Anywho, just more fuel for the fire.

Another GREAT idea, man you are on a roll :D
I just hope we've got the skillz and the resources to do the job :) I've got the html if anyone else can handle the dbase part, and I know that'll be the hardest part. I've also got lots of storage I can give to the team. I've got a coupla hundred gig sitting here empty on my DSL with a static IP. Let me know if it can be used for anything and we'll discuss speeds, my serv er, etc...

both great ideas
wouldnt mind to see how many people round here live away from the US, LIKE ME!

and a total thing like that would be rather kool

if i may throw in one of my own...
i wouldnt mind seeing a little kinda ranking system based on how many WU's or WU times, based on a users pc's or processors
ie. i only have one pc, and im not complaining or anything believe me
its just hard sometimes when theres lotsa people with farms or really high speed cpu's that dominate the rankings.

i know this is probably something that would be hard to implent and all the rest, but was just a thought

crunch on people!!

yeah, another really great idea, Cy!! ;)

i could also do the html/web page stuff since i've been working on my site lately. and i also have gigs of hard drive space (2x20G in RAID 0) that the team could use in my 2nd machine (it do nothig but crunch SETI mostly) along w/ my cable connection w/ static IP of course. i could install Win2000 Server edition in it if needed.....

now, all we need is some database programmer (be it ASP or else) and config the server....:D

Well, don't count on me for that.... I'm just starting learning MySQL....

Great ideas!! I love them! I can just imagine a map page with a dot on everybody's city.....

The rank is an interesting idea. To help keep it fair you could use a simple formula to calculate the rank level. Something like this maybe:

length of seti production (gross or just with the team?) X number of w/us X a speed level multiplier (like 5 levels covering all speeds) X w/us per day X etc.

You could use some or all of the above to produce a rank. Want to improve your rank in the team then improve one of the pieces of the formula such as add another cruncher for folume and/or speed.
