Got my 2 7k80's. Whats the best choice?

1. put both drives on raid 0 and install my games there?? BF2, COD2 and keep my original OS on my maxtor ide drive.

2. Put OS and games on 7k80's on raid 0 and back up often.

Also should i run windows 64 bit pro? on my system??

Thanks all.

In my opinion your best choice is 2. Why would you want to back up your OS anyway?

As far as games are concerned win 64 won't give you any benefits over a 32bit windows. Maybe it will give you a slight, probably not noticable, benefit in the future if games get 64bit optimized.

I would make it this way: Put all the stuff that can be reinstalled, like windows, games and programs on the raid disks. The other stuff goes onto the maxtor drive.

If you got some really important data that you cant afford to loose, its always best to back these up on DVDs or drives that are not connected to a power supply.

I would definitely start fresh with installing the operating system on a Raid 0 array. You will love the performance boost realized from having that raid array access data for the operating system. Doing raid any other way would be a waste of money in the case of a "performance junkie" like myself. Make the first partition a small one under 15GB for the operating system. Create another larger partition and use the rest of the storage for the current" games that you will be using. On raid, I usually always keep the data towards the fastest portion of the platter, thats why I say "current" games. Whatever I am not using I delete.

In my system I load everything on the SATA RAID 0 but put the Page file and backups on my PATA drive. RAID 0 writes slower as it has to write to both drives so page swaping is faster out of the PATA drive. I also backup everything to the PATA drive (until my RAID is full) so that I can quickly recover from a failure and not have to reload and re-tweak everything.
