It depends on the brand of hard drive that you own. Most of the retail hard drives come with cloning software in the box. If you want the most recent version of the software you go to the company's www site and download it.

So if at least one of the hard drives that you are cloning is a Maxtor or Western Digital, you can download the cloning software.

I have had good luck with the Maxtor Maxblast. Once I did have a tough time because of some illegal files on the hard drive I was cloning from!
