do i need one?

um, first off im very new at this. i am building my own computer and sound cards are never brought up anywhere in the basics of a computer parts, do i need one or is there a built in sound system in some other component?

There is built in sound in most if not all modern motherboards. This is usually good enough for the average user. If you feel the sound is not up to your standards you can always ask for sound advice here.
