I was looking at getting a new card, because I think my GeForce 3's memory is fried :( I got like ten 1 inch thick pink lines running down my screen when posting, last time I could boot up. I'll have to check it in my new system when it arrives in full.
The Kyro II got a lot of attention when it first came out, and is seriously dirt cheap(like $70). I've heard people praise the Ti200, too. The wild card seems to be the Radeon 8500...I've heard there are tons of driver problems right now, so it's not worth getting. Which card would you recommend? It's goign to be for gaming, so I want some nice 3DMark2001 scores :p

Do I dare add...the Voodoo5? :D
edit: Hell, or the GF2 MX, etc...I just want a card for under $200 that's really good!

Best Bang For Buck=Radeon 8500, however i advise you to wait until November when ATI cliams that they will release new drivers fixing all the problems, then see if these issues are fixed.....once the drivers are fixed this will be a Geforce3Ti500 killer, hopefully, also make sure no to buy oem........they are clocked at 250/250 as opposed to 275/275 retail.......
If you need a card right now The Ti-200 is defiantely it
The KyroII is pretty good, but you will definately not get the 3dmark2001 scores as it has no hardware T&L...its fine for todays games, but will not last you too long, but is definately better than an mx......
The Gainward Geforce2Ti is also a very good option because it comes with 4.0ns ram which can be oced to Geforce3 speeds.....

For under $200 there's no other choice than the 8500. With the crappy drivers it has now it's still blazing. Only trailing the Ti500 in most games.
The Ti200 is another really nice card for under 200.
It's a tight choice but for now I'd go with the 8500 because it'll be the fastest out there in a month or two, plus it has technology to last you a long while.
If you want good 3dmark2001 scores, you should buy a 8500. Just take a look at madonion's hall of fame :
1: Radeon 8500
2: GF3 ...
...
...
The only problem is that you won't get it for 70 bucks...

I love my gf2 ultra:D
somewhere in the 5000 mark range on 3dmark2001 last time I checked
at 300/500 clock speeds and a few easy tweaks
My advise is to go to madonions 3dmark results browser and have a look at the results there of the respected cards. these are posted by individuals and gives an accurate gammers result. I checked a couple of days ago and the gf3ti was on tip and had a decant lead on the 8500. I also read a hardware review on gf3 vs radeon 8500 and the gf3 had better hardware t&l supprt and in a breakdown of 3dmark tests the geforce 3 likes the demanding tests more than the radeon.
If you are after nice and cheap then the kyro2, i'm usin one at the moment but am upgradin in a day or two to a gf3ti 500, but i only get 2500points in 3dmark but as for current games its sweat, quake3 1024x768 32bpp hi detail i get about 85fps so thats pretty nice considdering its price.
Hope that gives you some ideas.

yes, but the only reason the 8500 is whooping all the Geforce3s is because of its drivers, once those are fixed expect some awesome Play from the Radeon.....it depends whether you need the card now, or are willing to wait a month or two.....

I'd say for UNDER $200 i'd go for the GeForce3 Ti200. I don't think you can find a RETAIL Radeon 8500 for $200(plz tell me i'm wrong because that would be cool). If you want a little cheaper I'd go with the GeForce2 Ti500(awsome card for the price). As for 3dMark scores the GeForces beat the 8500's so far. If you can wait, do it, so you can see what ATI does with their drivers.

I don't know about that. From the threads on this board it looks like right now the Ti200 beats the Radeon8500 in FPS in Quake and score in 3dMark. Of course the image quality is better(except in Quake). But I do like the card and if they get good drivers it'll definitely beat the Ti200 but i'm not sure it'll beat the Ti500. I'm not an nVidia freak but this is my opinion from what i've read and observed.

Alright, it looks like the Ti200 holds up the best, when it's overclocked, especially. Thanks for the comments, guys, after my stuff arrives and my Prophet 3 is confirmed screwed, I'll get a Ti200 unless the 8500 has confirmed drivers...Either that, or...run on my backup TNT2 M64 and hold out until next month? I don't suppose that would hurt, since I could get an 8500 for christmas...

Ok, turns out my TNT2 M64 has some MAJOR issues...don't know how that happened, but my display waves in POST(very obviously), and slightly on the desktop...Plus my Hercules is giving me crap, so screw the intermediate card, I think I should just go 8500 because it's like $100 cheaper than the Ti500 and the drivers should be out within a few weeks, right? Everyone who has one says it's worth it...then again, my desktop is going to be out of action between December and January(going on vacation). Is it worth putting up with something ultra-cheap and getting the best there is at Christmas??

ati says it should have driver fixes by November 15th......if i were you id wait and get the 8500,(but that also factors in the fact that i like ATI) it should be worth it if the drivers are fixed, if they are it will crush the Ti200....but if you dun wanna wait the Ti200 is the card for you....the 8500 oces well too, ask default....

has someone tried using the digital vibrance control on the geforce3 cards yet? I did and now my 2d and 3d quality are right on par with that of the radeon series
