I don't know if I can put a link to another forum...well i'll put it anyway tell me if i'm wrong.
So hi!
I'm new here and i'm also new to modding, it's been a drug for me in the last weeks or months (since december 22th, when i built my first gaming rig)
So here's the mod i made, which is isn't finished yet, and I just wanted to get some opinions or suggestions to improve it.
Thanks!
Here's the link:

Ok, it seems that I can't put the link 'cause of the "coarse" language being used in Pure Pwnage forums, so I'll take a few hours (lol) to put my mod here...let's start!
Goodgod's Mod
It's finally done! After hours of work on this project, many cuts and burnt fingers, this mod is over. I started from a standard looking pc with good hardware to a awesome look rig (In my opinion, u may not like it :) ) In the next posts i'll show you a couple of steps i did to go throught this mod
Specs:
Athlon 64 4000+ @ 2.4ghz

2) I began by cutting 2 80mm holes in the top of my case with a jumping saw (i removed all the components inside before of course :P ) Then it was time to sand the edges with some tools:
http://img344.imageshack.us/img344/4348/sandingtools7jt.jpg
3) The same week i was making plans for my side panel with a PP logo window, after some hard work doing the logo well and proportioned, i drawn it on my panel:

4) I had done some plans before that, it was like more than a month ago i think:

5) I received some stuff from my orders (some are shown on the picture):
3X Orange UV Reactive 80mm fans w/ quad uv led
Rounded IDE and Floppy Cables UV Red
Sata Cable UV Red
Dual Red Neon Kit w/ Dual Inverter and PCI Switch
2X Vantec Cable Sleeving Kit UV Red
PSU Connectors Changeover Kit UV Red
OEM Slot Protector Kit UV Red
Molex and ATX pins Removal Tools
2X Red LEDs
Sunbeam Rheobus Fan Controller
http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/7063/orderstuff2at.jpg
6) Here the big job begins, the sleeving job. I took me about 10 hours to sleeve only the PSU (me being a hardware noob  ):
http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/1943/psusleeving6zr.jpg
7) Once done, this looks 100% Kick-ASS, like 3dgameman (http://www.3dgameman.com) would say:

It cost me around 175$ CND so far. Ok let's continue this!
9) I did the sleeving job on all the case wires, fans, HSF, Neon Wires, EVERYTHING
http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/3809/sleevedfanwires6uq.jpg
10) I painted my fan screws, and fan grills black.
http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/1954/paintingstuff8jc.jpg
11) Then i modded the front LEDs....Having no knowledge at all in electronics, i was a little worried about it. It took me 2 hours or more to remove those front power and HDD blue LEDs and to replace them by red ones. I cut the wires, stripped them, twisted them around the LED pins, welded the thing, and put some tape on it to make sure that the pins won't touch together. I never been so happy to see those little LEDs light up!
http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/2958/ledmodding8bu.jpg
http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/4951/frontledcloseup0bh.jpg
12) Another big step was the finishing job: Installing the cathode kit, inverter, place those sleeved cables well, plus all the fans with some extra wires to reach my fan controller, inverting the LEDs of the fan controller (That made the LEDs turn red at 7v, before it was switching from red to blue at 7v). Now THAT'S cool.

Ok, it took only 5 sec to copy/paste the codes. :)
Excuse me if I sound like a kid (i'm 18 btw!)or whatever sometimes, the only forum I post on is a gaming one, the Pure Pwnage forum :)
I posted this to know your opinion about my mod, to answer your questions about it if needed, to learn about modding, and finally to have your suggestions on how to improve it.
Also, as a side note, i'm completly new to computer modding or building, as I didn't know how to install a CD-rom drive in last November  I'm proud of my work, it took me more than 50 hours with all the planning, modding and sleeving job.
As I said, this mod isn't completly finished(as you can see the side is wide open :eh?: ), and i'm supposed to cut my side panel in a Pure Pwnage logo window, with clear acrylic behind the panel, along with 8 black screws.
I also have some little things to finish:
1) I need to do a better cable job (hide more cables)
2) I need to find a way to finish the top (as you can see the holes are kinda rough)
3) Anything that will make it look more professional or aesthetical (open to suggestions, but with a low budget
4) Later on, maybe this summer when I get some extra $$$, i'll be buying another 7800gt, two AC VGA silencer Rev. 3 for my 7800gts, , and a thermaltake big typhoon for my CPU
Thanks,
-Goodgod

Wow, nice job man!
and thats pretty good for your first project too!
most people just cut a new fan hold for their first mod :D
Now if you just had a way to clean up all those wires. It would make it look alot better, and it would help out airflow alot more than you may think.
but i realize that some people ( like myself ) don't have the ability to put their wires behind the Motherboard tray. And it makes it kinda hard to make the wiring job look good. But there are ways to clean it up a bit. but it can be very time consuming, and requires alot of thinking. But its possible.
So if you ever have free time, and want to do something else nice for your PC, Sit down and think it out before hand, and clean up the wires.
Find ways to rout them around things. Tape them up to the sides of the case that arn't seen.
Well, thats all i have to say. Good job man!
oh, and WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!
EDIT:
I know ONE more thing you could do!
change the Pp logo for the Acrylic, to an O/C logo instead :D heh ( just kidding man, always have to promote the OC forums...but i'm sure you know how that goes with the PP forums too )

Thanks alot man, I was hoping that people would find it nice... Some of you guys are doing things with PCs that are beyond my mortal comprehension
I'm planning getting a better cable job soon, and it'll look better with the side window on (i'll mount two 80mm fans, one uv reactive orange with uv leds, the other standard, on the panel)
lol, a O'C logo would make no sense for me for the moment :)

Lol thanks, I'm still working on getting my mod better, wait for the pp window (sadly it won't be ready until next week or later :eh?: )
The cable job took me 4 hours this afternoon, hiding some cables behind the mobo, and cable tying all that stuff.... I hope you will like it (posting it tomorrow evening)

You're right, I used a cheap trashable camera while doing the mod, but it was somehow broken and only 5 or 6 of the 24 photos I had took were good :(
Then I used my father's numeric camera, but it's not a very recent one, and it needs alot of light when not on the flash... I'm planning on buying a good numeric camera this summer :)

thanks alot, this really is my first mod ; as I mentionned before, i didn't know anything about hardware or modding in last november, and didn't know how to install a cd-rom drive :D
I learned by myself just from the internet forums and from a friend who assembled my pc pieces in december.
Pics of my cabling job coming tomorrow hopefully :)
most people just cut a new fan hold for their first mod :D
I put together a 2x20 character LCD readout for my first mod. LOL you can tell its my first the lcd window in the drive bay clip thingy is all crooked. I havent gotten around to re cutting it.

it took long to get that photo, but here's the cabling job well done :)
I still need to get a molex extension to hide that molex near the HDD but i think i've hidden what i could....or tell me :)
The photos sucks, I know, my dad's camera is kinda old and almost broken...

looks very nice, i wish i had the patience to take the time to do all my cabling like that
goodgod
02-22-06, 09:35 PM
it will be better soon, i bought a 4 pin molex 12" extension, a coolermaster 80mm uv reactive red silent fan, some red cable ties, 2X 12" 3pin fan extension, a 4pin molex to sata 15pin cable, additional heatshrink tubing and a lazer led cannon.
With these extension my cable hiding job will be much better, and the red fan will be on the side panel along with another orange with uv LEDs. I'll finish the cable job (sleeving everything i bought w/heatshrikn too).
The lazer led cannon will be part of another little mod on my rig, doing it more pp style (check the little paint art below, love my paint skills  ).
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5059/untitled6ym.png
The idea is carving a -i pwn noobs- in the middle black slot covering for the 5.25" bays, and sticking some acrylic behind it and lighting the text with lazer led.
Tell me how you find it. :)

02-23-06, 06:27 PM
Here are more infos on what's to come for this mod, as I'm bumping this thread :p :
-My side window is gonna be cut and installed hopefully this weekend. If so, expect some photos next week :)
-My cabling job will be even better with the Sata power 15 pin to 4 pin molex converter, and a PCI-E to 2X 4pin molex converter (i just found i had this one lol), i'll make sure that the 2X80mm fans on the left of the PP window got a big enough cable (so i'll use the 12" extensions)
-I also decided to order a dual 4" UV cold cathode kit, to make glow all the uv reactive stuff i put in this mod (i realized that the uv LEDs weren't enough). If it looks like overdone, i'll light the case with the red cathodes or the uv ones, one at the time (plugging the uv cathodes on my fan control while the red cathodes are plugged on a pci bracket)
-I'm starting to work on the little -i pwn noobs- mod i've explained in the last post, so that should be done this weekend too.
-I'm looking for some sort of finish for the top, something that will reduce the fans airflow (yes, reduce, to reduce the sound too...and my airflow is so huge anyways) like a piece of pierced metal or rubber, ne1 has idea on how to finish the top?
Thanks for helping me out!

For the fan grill, i don't know if any knows where i can get something like this (paint artwork again)

The grill needs to:
Cover at least 9 cm²
Reduce the fan airflow
Protect like a fan grill
Tell me if you know anything i can buy that looks like this.
Thanks.

Home Depot or Lowes. It is called roofing flashing. It is very thing metal that can be cut with tin snips or a dremel and it is sooo uber 1337 cheap that it pwns noobs.

Very Nice Cabling man. :welcome: to the forums btw. I noticed in one of the above pics that you have the steel 40 pad, How you liking that and which side you using and did you use the teflon tape?
About the ONLY problem I see, is the location of the CCFL inverter, those things are known to go, and when they do, they go in a big fiery flash. So I would DEFINATLY move that to a safer location, but as I can see, you have already carefully laid out your wiring, so realy not sure what advice to hand out covering that fix. Now for a n00b job, it no n00b job, its pure pwninizati0n. :D

oh thats how you did the window..
i was wondering how the hell you would do that P with the hole in the P...
looks good for a newb. my first mod involved a full acryllic side panel... lets just say it wasnt a beauty... ill post pix if i can find them in another thread..
also welcome to OC forums
about all you could do is try to route the hard drive area cables off to the left side and downward. for now.. you COULD throw some cathodes in there if you get ambitious, which might actually help you take better pics too.
these are just suggestions, and you did great your first time out :)

actually, it's the steelpad QCK, a cloth pad.

Yeah i'm working on that tomorrow, i just got my dual 4" uv cathodes, giving a nice effect to all that uv reactive stuff. I'll do a better cable job, and move that inverter with the other one in the 5.25" cage. I should post pics about that finishing job next week.
that is pretty nice. good job.

Thanks exceed, just a little post to tell you i'm going to post some new pics, about updates done last week. My -i pwn noobs- carving is almost finished, and I should get my new order from adpmods.com next week, so more updates to come.
At least tomorrow i'll show you guys my new cable job, much and much better, along with the full uv effect created by my new dual 4" uv cathodes. I moved the dual inverter that was near my 7800gt, and i just got a new idea for something to mod (I can't stop this project damnit I love it  )
Thanks!

Let's start the update  :
1) Here's the new cabling job, I had a hard time hiding all those wires to the right of the case (much better than before IMO):

2) Cable job close-ups:
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/4379/cablebundling6bc.jpg
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/9091/cablejobcloseup0fn.jpg
3) I've installed the dual 4" uv as i said, here they are:
http://img446.imageshack.us/img446/1016/uvcathodelocation3cy.jpg
4) I've also moved the fan grills from under the top to above. I'm still looking for something to finish the top and hide those rough holes, but that will come in time.
http://img446.imageshack.us/img446/3669/topfans3vi.jpg
5) The red cathodes cables were a little short, but i managed to move the dual inverter in the 5.25" cage. I bought some cathodes cables extensions to make the wiring easier, and i should get them in the mail next week.
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/5570/cathodewires8jg.jpg
6) The -i pwn noobs- carving is in progress, if i get enough spare time it should be completed this weekend or next week.

7) UV vs Red theme: I installed the uv cathodes to see what it looks like with both effects, or with one of each. Here are the results:

9) Whats to come?
-The front 5.25 -i pwn noobs- carving will be lighted by two laser beam red LEDs, stickied to the side of the 5.25" cage.
-I'll finish the top if I can find something nice to hide the holes.
-I need more uv effect in the left part of the case, so I bought a 3 UV lazer LEDs casing that I'm going to stick in the HDD cage, somewhere I can hide it. This thing will be in the same channel than my uv cathodes, so the uv effect will be shut off by turning a single button on my sunbeam rheobus.
-Before I forget, I'm going to buy some orange UV reactive paint to make the uv effect better, and now I need suggestions on what to paint (HSF, the 120mm fan on the left, the ram sinks, etc...)
-I'm working on making my own dual inverter to 3pin fan converter, as it's almost impossible to find, I want to remove that pci bracket and to put the red cathodes in the 3rd channel of my fan/light controller.
-I think I'm going to cut the Pure Pwnage logo a little, to make it a little more like the original:
http://img446.imageshack.us/img446/1763/ppwindowcut7xp.jpg
(Original):
http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/828/pplogo3nv.jpg
-I'm planning on cutting another window just on the left of the logo, and to keep the fans there, mounting them on the acrylic that will be in the back.
http://img446.imageshack.us/img446/5553/newwindowcut1sg.jpg
So that's it for now, I hope you enjoy, more to come in the next month!
Comments are really welcome :)

Sure! I first printed an edited version of the pp logo, a little streched, to make it fit a rectangle instead of a square. Then I took some mesurements and did some calculations, to draw the big logo with a pencil on my side window (as you can see on the the images somewhere)
I used a dremel tool to cut all the needed parts, it took about 3 hours. The trick is to go slowly, taking your time.
I sanded the edges of the pp logo with a square file, then i began with the acrylic.
I used some 5mm thick clear acrylic from Rona (a Home Depot, or Home hardware like in Quebec), pierced the holes with a drill in it, then used 8 black painted fan screws to make the acrylic stick in place.

im thinking about remplacing those two 12" red ccfls by uv ones, to go only uv, but to buy some orange or red leds or something like that to make the Pure Pwnage logo glow, sticking them right on the panel.
For the update, i'll be posting one this weekend, for my other window progress.

Hey, man...that is some nice work! You said it was your first mod? You did good. I like what you did with the LEDs in the front of the case. And you panel mod is quite original as well.
I've been trying to come up with something for my panel mod. I am thinking of just cutting out most of the panel, but I have also thought of some kind of design...don't know what though. I have some ideas I threw together, but it'd be A LOT of cutting.
Did you clean up the cable management, or are you just gonna leave it? I do like the lights you have, and the fans look cool.
Good job, man! If you'd like to see my Build/Mod Project log, go here ( http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=448138)

MAJOR UPDATE, FINALLY!
I got pics for you guys, be ready!
They were taken with a regular camera 2 weeks ago, and some with the blurry numeric cam. Sorry for the poor quality again :)
Let's go.
1) First, I was getting ready to do some serious work on my fan grills and side panel, so I burrowed enough tools from my father (so many random tools he got I can't believe it sometimes lol)
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/3109/00034ta.jpg
2) The - i pwn n00bs - carving was in progress, I found that the smaller drill bit he had on his Makita drill was good to carv in the plastic bezel, so I used it to do the rough job, to finish with a little cutter. That turned out better than expected.

http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/2927/00079vn.jpg
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/4171/00087wm.jpg
3) I taped all my side panel, beginning to work on the other rectangle window.
http://img426.imageshack.us/img426/2837/00012dj.jpg
4) Rectangle window done! So easy with my brand new dremel!

5) Working on my fan grills. Cut the 9X9 cm square, mark the holes, pierce them with a small bit, then with a larger one, then pierce again the half of the hole with a huge (1/2 inch) bit to make the screws go into the fan grill when screwed, so that they it look clean. Then goes the sanding and painting.
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/6230/00040rc1.jpg
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/425/00105ts.jpg
6) Working on my acrylic, had to buy another acrylic piece to make it all the side panel wide, had to drill 11 holes for the window, plus 8 for the fans that are going to be screwed on the rectangle window. Add to that two holes with the hole saw. I don't want this to break now lol :p
http://img426.imageshack.us/img426/8136/00051bp.jpg
7) The LED setup: I put 5 super bright LEDs behind the Pure Pwnage logo with a resistor, all that stuff wired and soldered to a molex connector on the 12v. Working perfectly.

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/9320/040100010gm.jpg
8) I bought alot of stuff at performance-pcs.com, two uv 12" ccfl, another orange uv reactive fan /w UV leds, some splitters or extensions to plug all that lightning and fans on channels of my sunbeam rheobus fan controller

My fan controller can now control the full uv effect (two 12" uv ccfl, two 4" uv ccfl, a tri lazer UV LED module) with a single button, and all the uv fans with two other buttons. The last one controls the red LEDs.
So as you can see my mod is almost finished....more to come next week or the week after that. Post comments please :)
Whats to come:
- Working soon on my orange uv paint
- I'll replace the dual inverters with some aluminum dual inverters to make the thing safer
- The red LEDs will be inserted into the side panel acrylic
- I'll install the Jeremy silouhettes on my fan grills, here's a little teaser:
http://img426.imageshack.us/img426/5320/00092zv.jpg

So I was telling myself, why not? I would even get money in this trade because the next rig is going to be stronger, as the market changed since december.
I know that it can be sad, but modding became a passion for me, and to become better at it, I have to mod, and to mod, I need a pc to build. I don't have money to buy a second pc, that's why.

Wow, thats a really nice job. I am currently working on a mod myself, ive run into troubles after using a hole tool. i was putting fan holes in half bondo and half thick steal, it bent and my friend beat the daylights out of the case with a mallet and cracked the bondo. So i gotta spend anotehr 5 hours or so rebondoing it and resanding and repainting. I really like your orange though, i planned on doing orange myself and i got a bag of orange leds. I know you said you don't have money right now, and it takes $$ to make $$, but when you get to that point, you should give it some thought. -----FINAL UPDATE-----
Finally, this mod is done. 107 days, more than 100 hours of work and learning, 500$ and a couple of scratches after posting my idea on the Pure Pwnage forums on the 10th of January 2006, this is it. I can't believe that six months ago I didn't know how to install a CD burner... Thanks for all the help that so many people gave me in the last months... Guys from PP forums and OCforums, thank you.
I hope you will like it, it's my tribute to Pure Pwnage as a fan since june 2005, and my contribution to the great PP community. I'm looking foward to become better in modding and I'm more than satisfied of that first mod. Hopefully you will feel the same about it.
I got more projects to come, stay tuned for the next years :) .

Very impressive! Looks like a good job overall. I'm right there with you when you said that some months back you barely knew anything, and now you're at this level. Less than a year ago, I doubt I could've built/modded my own rig - and like you, with the help of the forums, now I can too.
Congrats! :attn:

Thanks alot, I'm proud of what I've learned by myself, that shows how much a passion modding is for me  . That seems to be the same case for alot of people on different modding forums, which is good. :p

Yeah I have to agree, you did a good job, especially for a first mod. I like your custom fan grills, lol

We need to paint your mobo.... I think you have to use some special paints but it can be done easly.. that would help the overall apearence when not in the dark.

Strait up cool case, would'nt have guessed your first.
Cabling is always tough, but it looks good. Your next one you might want to custom wire since you seem to have all the other skills down.
Can't wait to see another from you.
