looking into getting a 30 cap 3.4ghz northwood.... i'm guessing third line with 800mhz fsb as first two lines are 400 and 533 mhz fsb... Just want to know what i should expect out of this processor, apparently it is a rare one.. i can't find info other than 30 caps are excellent overclockers. Should I expect to go over 4ghz? or should i not o/c this one at all in fear of the dreaded snds? Batboy of knowledge plz enlighten me!?!?!?

You might get it upp to 4ghz...
It should do 3.8 easy.. but 4 is a tough nut for nw, but it might if you are lucky..
now push some volts.. :)

Yea, I couldn't break 4ghz stable until I got an EO stepping prescott. my northwood could do 3.8 stable on the same motherboard.

The 30 cappers tend on average to be slightly better overclockers, but 4 gig with a Northwood on air is tough to do. I had a 3.2C 30 capper that did 3.9 gig all day long, but just wasn't quite stable at 4 gig.

ON air I would expect 3.8. Just what the others said.

For 100% surefire stability, 3.6GHz
For benching, 3.8GHz is obtainable.
IMO, 3.6GHz is the pyshical limits of northwood design, after such you will need extra cooling or possibly other mods.
Being a 3.4C you may have better luck than that of a lesser rated northwoods, your FSB will be lower due to the x17 mutliplier, the chipset and RAM may agree more readily with that in terms of overclocking stress factor.

I run 1.536 vcore daily for the past year . I bump to 1.58 to get benchs at 4.4
