I bought the following hardware to have a PC play on my projection widescreen, but was 100% disapointing once I got it running.
A8N5X
AMD 64 3200+
eVGA 6800GS 256MB PCI-e
I was thinking that with HDTV out on the video card that it would look crystal clear. Man was I wrong. It sucked so badly, I feel I made a bad purchase.
I dumped it out to 1080i, I even tried 480p and 480i. S-video looked the best which is really strange... But the text was unreadable in any mode. I guess they have not perfected this type of output yet...

It's different from card to card. I myself have had the same problem with 6800GS, but with previous GTX and DVI/HDMI input the picture was crystal clear.

I am running HD out on my HTPC box with an X800PRO via the Component video out. It looks great at 720p. I tried mine at 1080i, but it looked much worse than 720p. Have you tried 720p?
Mine took a bit of work with resolutions and refresh rates to get it to look right. It wasnt just a set it and forget it type of deal. I think I ended up with a resolution of like 1136 x 708, or something strange like that.

would that be a driver issue perhaps?

This (http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/285/4/) is an interesting read concerning HDTV support.

My HDTV does not do 720p. only 1080i. So much flicker it was unbarable and
Anyway it was a good try on my part. Wanted to browse and play games on my beast. But I just got off the phone with newegg.com, no restocking fee. They've waived it for me.
