I'm looking for a tiltmeter to use in my bong cooler and a very large reservoir. I need them so I can (1) automatically refill the bong from the very large reservoir (VLR) (2) detect the water level in the VLR and the bong, and (3) automatically turn off the computer and the water pump if the bong water level gets too low.
I've got a design (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44467) in mind, but I know that a professionally made tiltmeter would be simpler to get ahold of and would work without tweaking.

If I understand what you are talking about, then we used to use the same thing in very pimp car stereo systems back in the day. We bought them ready made and installed them is the dash, etc. Neat gadget but pretty worthless in an Acura, no? :) They had a few outs on them that could trigger an alarm or light or whatever; we never used them. The trigger points were set at the factory- I don't remember what at.

Basically it was like one of those compass globes suspended in liquid for the car with more bits in it. . I suppose that would work, eh? 3 bucks at 7-11~:D well maybe not...

Close, but I need something I can attach LEDs to and get a signal from. If that's what you were talking about, then ignore me.

Don't know off hand where to find them, but in the machines where I work, we have 'liquid level sensors' for the oil.. They're basically a long shaft with a disc around it that can float up/down with the coolant level.. When it hits a certain level, it signals the machine that it's out of coolant... Seems like a large-scale potentiometer.

You could easily mount one of them inside the bong & rig it to whatever you want.

I'll look around & see what I can dig up.

*Maybe you could get one from a junkyard out of a gas tank?
