I have 2 computers(winME) connected nic to nic via crosscable.
I have set both pc's on the workgroup "home", and set the ip's to 169.254.130.1(athlon) and 169.254.130.2(pentium)

The problem:
On computer athlon, when I open "my networkplaces\home" click on the computer Pentium i get the error "\\pentium is not accessible, windows cant find the computer or share name."

also, when on computer pentium, in "my networkplaces\home" it does not show athlon.

I had the same problem with the home network wizard.

What can I do to fix this, all I want to do is share files.

Go to My Computer on both of the computers, right click on a drive that you want to share. Choose Properties. Go to Sharing tab, and click on Shared As. Fill in the names and everything.

It should make the comuters share files.

Also I would personally use the 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 IPs. It's just less confusing that way.

I have allready set both hard drives as file sharing drives with full access. I get the same error no matter what range IP's I use.
oh, and they are on subnet 255.255.255.0.
under network properties I have check both the file sharing options.

Seems like it should be working, but i still get the same error as b4

thanks for trying though, this is frustrating!!:(

Just to make sure, you do have IPX installed, right?

I had the EXACT same problem... make sure ipx is on and also set your media type to auto-detect.

ALSO!!!!!! Do not set sharing properties to full on your c: drive - there is an ugly virus that I got hit with that looks for fully accesible windows directories....

networking with ME sucks, im sorry i tried it and had nothihng but problems. its only my account and should only be taken as a grain of salt but i would suggest Win2K Pro if you plan on having a fast easy network
