Hey guys, I'm doin a sci. project this year on water cooling. Radiator Vs Bong. My uncle owns a Repair shop. and he told me why don't I try something with freon. It won;t be compact, but it is practical on a large scale basis.
So whaddya think guys should I try setting up a freon system, with a compressor, etc etc etc????

Vapochill (http://www.overclockers.com/articles212/) is a freon based cooling system for CPU's. It's 100% do-able but you have to be careful with condensation depending on the method of cooling delivery for the CPU die.
If your uncle owns a repair shop, I bet he could fashion something similar to the Vapochill setup. GO FOR IT!! :) Be sure to keep us posted...with pictures if possible, if you decided to go through with the project. Good luck!

If you mange to get it done be sure to write up a how to and take a bunch of pics. I bet that'd earn ya a hundred bucks if you submitted it here for a front page article

Hmmm, Ya see I'm good friends with the administrator of our Tech Department, and hes donating an old Socket Pentium 200. that doesn't have a die so do i still have to worry about condensation
And If I use freon will i even have to use a peltier?? :)

you wont have to use a pelt, BUT, condensation is ALWAYS a problem. if anything gets water on it in your computer, it will break.
You can check out my website for details on how to make a phase change cooling setup...
Yes, you always need to worry about condensation when dropping the cpu temp below room temp.

and whats ur website?
They have a rule in here that you can't post your own URL...
It's in my profile, or you can hit the WWW under any of my posts.

you don't need a pelter but can you use one I just found a old fridge and i am going to take out the compressor and mod it to cool my computer... do you think that adding a pelter wont make that big of a difference..

ptgc, I have checked your website before, and it is really great reading. I am wondering what progress you are making on your updated evaporator? I believe you mention that you were looking into new evaporator designs that may be more efficient...
Wolfsid: Adding a TEC should make a huge difference, depending on what size TEC & how you set it up.. Here (http://server39.hypermart.net/xoverclocker/supercool11.html) is a link to someone who used a dual-compressor setup with a TEC to get -50C!
MadMan: I havent had a chance to remake the evap yet.. I've been super-busy with the holidays & work.. Hopefully I'll be able to soon.. I've got an idea in mind, I just have to get it going. I really can't complain about the temps I'm getting though.. I'm still running 1716Mhz and only hitting 7C under full load.

Nice I was thinking about either getting a 220 watt and put that under the evaporator.. what do you think give me some hints on what you think is better for cooling this way.. I worked installing ac units in houses so i know some what about the pros and cons about this project.. am i risking to much or not enought that is the question.:D

If you seal the case to outside air you will have no condensation problem. This means you need to build an air tight case. You might consider building it out of sytrofoam or some other insulator. The CD and FLOPPY will need to be outside the airtight part. The ribbons for these will need sealed as they cross from unsealed to sealed.
Most refrigeration units cannot handle the heat of a computer.

Wow. I remember when i posted this :)
The idea died for a while, but now its rearing its ugly head again.
If anyones still paying attention :)
PTCG- You site doesn;t seem to work, i get to the hompeage but then I get Forbidden. hmph
Also, OnceI do go through with this system, how loud am I looking at?
And whos got a good article on preventing condensation?

octools.com has good articles on condensation prevention and the noise level depends on the type of compressor and condensor(hot radiator), I use a fan to cool it, so its about the same as loud as 2 bathroom fans for ventilation. Mine drowned out the compressors noise and its more of a swish than a high pitched sound. If you use a rad from a fridge wo/fan and wrap part of the returning pipe around the compressor and box in the compressor in foam and a wood box it will be totally silent.
hope this helps and gives some fress ideals:D

why not run condenser outside. it servers two benifits quiet + doesn't dump heat into room

I thought of that before, but then it takes alot more work if you have to move the pc every week(like I do). For the average user that wouldn't cause a problem, good ideal. :)
Oh, is anyone using quick disconnects(for higher pressure systems) with their cooling systems? do you lose alot of coolant after a while?
