Use Reserator 1 Plus:

I wonder if the pump will wear out and make noise if I don't use any additives only distilled water?

I thought this Eheim pumps were made to go with just water as they are used in aquariums.

I doubt it would wear out and make noise from distilled alone, but thats not a good idea either way. You need an anti-corrosive like antifreeze, because even with all copper corrosion is gonna occur eventually. You also need an algaecide, or again, eventually your likely to see growth. Just my opinion.

Pretty sure the blue stuff that comes with the reserator plus handles everything... IIRC the primary biocide ingrediant is commonly found in womans cleansing products.

Oops I didn't realize the reserator comes with an additive, disregard my post.

I wouldn't do that. I think there is something off about the zalman stuff. Members over at spcr's forums have a few threads on using alternatives like zerex. I dunno why though.

Because it smells and it's ethylene glycol

ah. Guess that douching stuff zalman used must be pretty cheap ;-)

Ethylene glycol isn't horrible. Propylene is proven to be better, but only in car engines... Someone like BillA would be the one to ask about real world differences between the two in terms of pump life.
