I need to buy either 9/16" or 5/8" tubing to fit onto my new res since the barbs are way too big for my 7/16 and i did not want to crack it trying to make it fit. im going to go for 5/8 because i tested it at home depot and it fit perfectly. only thing is they didnt have any clear tubing in stock so im going to order it from mcmaster. i just wanted to know if anyone using 5/8 has had any problems with leaks or kinking. im a little worried about routing so what do you think would be the best wall thickness. i want to still be able to rout but i dont want it to leak at the same time.

My setup uses 7/16. But my pump uses 5/8
I bought 5/8 from mcmaster.
It turns out to actually be Clearflex 60
No problems with it.

I have used 5/8" ID with my first fully custom build. I did realise that that 1/2" ID will actually fit over 5/8" ID after it has been boild and smeared with some dish soap though. I bought the 5/8" ID from mcmaster aswell, but I specifically bought the masterkleer because it had the best turn radius.
I would suggest sticking with 1/2" ID because it seals the same as 7/16"->1/2". The 5/8" is a real pain to route and has the tendancy to put stress on barbs. As far as leaks, just use the metal worm rings and you should be fine. I have used copper 5/8" OD pipe with no flanges and it held on tight with the metal clamps.
