****ing me off, I keep getting kicked off my network. My dad just added a D-Link wireless router for his new laptop. So it's his laptop (wireless), his desktop and my desktop hooked up to router and every other hour I'm getting booted off. Quick fix is a reboot of the router so I know it's the router, not the comcast highspeed modem. How can I start attacking this problem? It's only my desktop that gets booted, my dad's desktop stays online.

The only thing I can think of is, my dad ran the D-Link setup disk on his desktop and I never had to run it on my desktop, it just worked right away. The router we had before was a D-Link router. He just bought a new one for the wireless so we went from a wired D-Link to a wireless D-Link.

Log into the router and see how it's configured. Look for DNS setting and the like. Are you trying to use a static ip address on your comp? You might need to switch to dynamic ip address or switch all computers to static and disable dns on the router. Let me know what settings you have running and i'll try to help you out.

Also, I know some of the d-links(I've had/have 3) have come with bad firmware and have had problems with multiple connections. Try upgrading the router to newest firmware.

I'd try updating your network card drivers on the local computer you're having problems with beforehand. If that doesn't work, then i'd try updating the firmware on your router.

is it a consistant hour? If its timed out like that I would almost say its the routers DHCP not giving you a new IP. Check the router settings/your Network card setting to make sure all the DHCP is set up correctly.
