Does anyone know of a guide which gives an idea of how much power different sorts of components will draw? I am interested to know how much stuff I could have running under my power supply, and when I would be pushing it a bit.

Cheers.

Well, the box's should be marked as to how many watts or amps each piece uses.

or look it up online at the mfg's web site.

Francesco2, thanks - that was EXACTLY what I was after. It's going in my bookmarks.

I am really surprised at how it estimated my usage at only 311 watts...

That's with a 3800+ San Diego, 4 HDDs (3 IDE 1 SATA), a DVDRW, a 6800GT, 3 USB things being charged, a few fans and some other stuff.

Yep but keep in mind that in modern PSUs, as also reported at the top of the page I linked, "The total watts is important but the total amperage aviable on the 12v rails is the most important"

Nah 311watts sounds about right, its not that much of a high wattage cpu.
