Hey, a buddy of mine bought an EVGA 6800GS AGP at the same time I did, but little did he know that his dumb gateway p4 system only has a 160W PSU. The card requires atleast a 350. Now I have a 300W here that I don't use. Do you think that I can plug a 4-pin dongle from the 300w into the power input on the card and have it run okay?
It'll just need to last a couple days until he can get his 450W Modstream.

You would need to jumper the 2nd power supply to run by using a paper clip or equivalent to connect the green wire to a black wire on the atx connector

you could try swapping out the PSUs and use the 300W one in your buddies's system... I have read on other forums that people have used this card with a 250W PSU in a shuttle case even....
Cheers.

you have to remember though that shuttle psus are EXCEPTIONAL quality. they can run a lot of very high end systems even though the wattage rating is only 250.

That may be true... but the point I was trying to make is that it probably wouldn't hurt to give the 300W a try... who knows, it may run just fine. Never know for certain unless you give it a go.
Cheers.
