Hi, i've been outdated now... i'm thinking of buying a new box but i have no clue what to go after... HELP

should i look for an atlhon MP or XP ?

whats the news on dual cpu mother boards for amd systems?

is DDR the best ram type yet?

how nice are those RAID-100 that came with all the boards today? are they easily suported by win2k and GNU linux?

well, i think thats material for some time of postings :)
thanks

I'd go with an 1600 xp at the moment. price wise it kicks butt.

DDr isn't the fastest ram out there. But it certainly is the fastest ram coupled with amd processors.

Some pretty nice motherboards out there these days. I'd consider the new abit that'll be running the 266+ chipset.

ditto unless money is not object then i'd go with the 1900+'s that will be out very shortly. If you're willing to wait it shouldn't be much longer before the 2000+'s are out. As far as a mb if you are buying right now then there's the ABIT KG7 w/onboard RAID otherwise i'd wait for the Abit KR7.

The best board is the epox - 8kha+ddr
it has the kt266a chipset memory voltage adjustment for higher fsb and its very fast and stable, look at the reviews!

nope ddr is not the best, but it is one of the best. And it is the best you will be able to get unless you want a pentium 3 or 4 (yuk :p )
. Pentium 4 boards, and some pentium 3 boards (as far as I know) are the only boards that carry ram called RIMMS, with a 300mhz bus speed. BUt there are people that have OC there DDR ram to past that speed, at least I think there have been :) . But anyway, DDR, and 1600 are nice, but waiting for the 2000's is probably a better idea if you have patience :)
