Stay on you stupid AC unit!

A while back I modified my thermostat. A long copper tube with solder on the end. I pulled it out and made it external. All was good for a while. Now the machine is back to flipping on and off at will. What can I do? if i cut off the temp probe thingy will it stay on? or do I have to take apart the face and splice some wires? Its not electronic, just a turnable dial for the temps.

it spends hours off though :( enough that my room is getting hot even.... arg then it spends hours on. I think its gone retarded. I just want manual control now.

You're going to need to remove the temperature probe from the thermostat, and short the points at which it was originally connected.
