I'm heading off to a PC Fair tomorrow and there is really no telling what PSUs will be available. I'm going to pick up an Opty 165 or a 3800+ X2, so I think I'll need lots of power (on the 12 volt line(s)?). I printed out a list from another site that Skou pointed out on one of the numerous Cyberdeal threads about the Ultra 500 POS.

At the low end is an Antec Trupower II 480 at $85 and towards the high end is a Silverstone Zeus 650w at $176. I don't really want to spend more than $125 or so but this PC is going to be up around the clock and I live in a high-cost area so efficiency is important.

I'm not likely to be overclocking this too much; more often it will be on the Cool N Quiet setting. Oh, I'd also like the PSU to be vewy vewy quiet - probably a 120 fan. I bought a Zalman 9500 for the CPU.

If I can't get a good price on a CPU and/or PSU, I'll just order them from Newegg. I can't really start building the rig until Thursday anyway.

I'd stay away from TPII. I recomend the Seasonic 600W. I love Seasonic as they have very innovative adn helpful designs for their cables especially.

I've heard that's a quiet one.

My OCZ520PS seems very quiet.

well my sparkle FSP550 sounds quieter then the ocz520.

i think the only psus you should look at are the Seasonic-600,ocz520ps or sli,SPARKLE FSP550-60PLG,SILVERSTONE ZEUS SST-ST65ZF

The ST65ZF or do you mean the ST56ZF? I think it's the latter that's getting the recommendations around here at the moment.

hmm, well the zeus seires is a bit foggy since i read some of the reviews. i checked newegg to make sure, i was 90% sure that was the one being recommended.

Well just so you know, the high rating one is the 56ZF, definately not the 65. :)

As usual, I would go for either the OCZ Powerstream 520 or the Silverstone ST56ZF. That is the correct "Etasis" model number for the highly rated Zeus and it can be had from $120 to $140. I think newegg has them for 137.99

Power failure at the PC Fair. I just got back. A few dealers had the AMD 3800+ X2 but none had the Opty 165. I'm probably going to get the 3800+ but no dealer had a decent power supply. The only thing that looked interesting was an Antec Neo 500, and I checked with Newegg and they don't carry it. So, I passed. I guess I'll order the Silverstone.

I ended up getting the Seasonic. Seemed cool, quiet, and stable. Plus $20 rebate brought it down to the others.

I just ordered a Seasonic 600w for the system I will be building this week. 3800x2, A8N32-SLI Deluxe, 7800gt (gonna get another eventually and want a mobo/psu that's SLI ready).

The A8N32 motherboard overclocks nicely but the temperatures are a little on the high side. Check out this thread here for more info:

PS- Sorry if I am off subject.
