Hey guys, this is my first post here after lurking for a few months...

I got a built by ATi 9800 Pro last year, and unfortunately, it does not overclock very well, it starts to snow at 415 Mhz core. Also, yesterday, out of curiosity, about 1/2 an hour into playing CS:Source, I touched the card to see how hot it got, and I burnt myself touching the memory chips! (my card has 2.8ns Samsung I believe) Also the back of the core is really, really hot. From what I have read here, the 9800 series are the hottest GPUs made.

So anyway, I am deciding to get a new cooler/silencer to replace the anemic stock cooler and hopefully get a better OC. It is either the Zalman VF-700 Cu or an Arctic Cooling. So my question is, which do you guys recommend? I know Arctic Cooling is a lot cheaper. Also, which type of Arctic Cooling silencer should I get? I have seen one for the 9800 XP and one for the Pro, which one will fit my card? This is what my card looks like: http://i6.ebayimg.com/01/i/06/5a/58/c1_1.JPG

i think alot of people here will probably recommend the vf-700. when i got mines my oc on the core went up 30mhz.

I agree with aznboi too, many will suggest the vf-700.

If you do get the silencer though, the ATI Silencer 1 Rev.2 is what you should be looking for.

if you get the 700, you'll need to get memory heatspreaders

the artic silencer will cool both ram and core

keeps mine at 60c or lower, but you should do better than that

the vf700 comes with memory sinks. they dont work as well as other sinks but theyre better than nothing.

if I had to chose between the two I'd go with the ati silencer. In fact I'd rather use the old VGA Silencer if you can find one. Copper ramsinks on my old 9800pro flashed to XT never did a thing for performance.
