i have a pentium 3 700 slot 1 processer and a tyan trinity 400 mainboard. for some reason i can't get my processer past 784mhz!.. if i change the fsb past 112 then it drops the speed of my processer down to 630mhz!! n e ideas? also... how far could i go with out doing damage?
Does your motherboard support bus speeds above 100mhz (say 133mhz)??
If it does, I'd suggest increasing your voltage to about 1.80 or 1.85 (about max with stock cooling) and set the bus speed to 133mhz to avoid some issues that could come up when overclocking your PCI bus...
If it doesn't support bus speeds at 133mhz, then you're out of luck...
BTW, welcome to the forums :).

yes .. it supports 133 and goes up to 140mhz fsb

try my suggestion, see if, with increased voltage to say 1.80/1.85, you can get it running with a 133mhz bus...
you will also need decent memory... is it PC133 memory?

yes it is pc133.. i can change it in the bios... like clock +33 or clock -33 or auto...
but what kinda cooling would i need to get it that high?.. i have 2 case fans installed and that is it...
also is there some kinda program to moniter my mobo's temp?.. motherboard moniter doesn't work on mine!!!.. i have been using my geforce 2 gts moniter to check if my case cooling worked..lol

You can get a realy good heatsink/fan for the slot one, I have an Alpha and swear by it...but there have been improvements since I bought mine.
There are some reviews on heatsinks on overclockers main page to help you decide on a good cooling solution...the stock h.s/fan is ok for mild clocking but to get three hundred+ mhz overclock, you need serious cooling.
Look in your bios for something like "speed error hold" and dissable it if it exists.
You might be able to get an old version of motherboard mon to work if you can find one and D'L' it
133mhz bus is recomemded for the first try, and if that works go to 140mhz.
And the most drastic thing I would recomend is adding a heatsink to your clock generator....helps stability at high bus speeds.
BTW, don't use my 700 as an example, I bought mine pretested and gauranteed to do a gig..getting it to 1115 was some real work.
Good luck

this board sucks for overclocking.. i can't ajust the voltage!!.. it won't work!!!!.. will i damage my agp card and my pci cards if the clock speed is a bit higher?..

You maybe hard to believe this but it is very difficult to damage the system's hardware by overclocking it, so don't worry unless you run into some bad power shortening by lightning. but I am serious, pretty much the worst thing could happen by overclocking with insufficient voltage amount would be your windows system files get corrupted and may lead you to reformat. I'd say go overclock that thing anyway without hesitations. :)

well.. i don't wanna keep hesitating.. but my sisoft sandra program sais my agp,pci and isa ports are too high. it said that about the memory too but i just clocked it down
Just means that when you overclock its going more than the chip is set at so it displays you that message..
When you overclock you overclock everything..
Your Ram , PCI/AGP Bus speeds and so on.
Josh,
Go for it! I got a slot PIII 700 running to 933 on a shuttle hot 661p!! A crappier board than yours!!! The only volatge adjustment I had was an unknown "factory pin" that bumps the voltage by .1v. It wasn't even in the motherboard manual...I had to find out about it on the web. Anyway, decent cooling, PC133 ram, and running at a 133fsb/33pci bus will get you just about a 1ghz performance(933). If this piece of crap Shuttle board can do it, I know the Tyan can.
Good Luck! ,

well.. i tried..and tried...and tried..lol....lots!... but when i up the fsb it won't boot into windows....it freezes!!..
i just got a program called soft fsb but i can't set it up.. i don't know what PLL-IC to select... n e 1 know if it will work on my board?..
sorry.. i m new to overclocking...
damn board..lol....
