View Full Version : Will This Work As A Water Cooler?

I know this belongs in the cooling area but I thought I would share the photos. I came across this cooling unit today. I hooked a water line to the inlet side and turned on the compressor and within seconds I had water flowing out the outlet side at 40f degrees.

With a little work I could mount this entire setup in another tower with a pump and reservoir. Its almost the size of a med tower. I then would place a temp probe inline going to the water block as a safety if I lost a compressor, pump, or fan. If the water reached a set point say 60f degrees it would shut down the computer. My only concern is with condensation living here in Arizona. If I kept the water temp going to the water block say around 50f degrees and the case temp around 75f degrees I should not have a problem.

Click on the links to view the photos. I welcome any comments as I am sure someone has tried this setup.

It's from a wall mounted water cooler. I really think this setup will work.

chances are you will get some condensation problems, there is a topic somewhere in the cooling section that talks about conformal sprays, ohhere (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34974) it is.

Hope that helps

BtW i have pratically the same cooler(old water fountain, right?) I think that should be more than enuff for my 800mhz duron, what are you planning on cooling with it? I would be really interested in results (i will post mine when i get it setup, but that will be in a while).

good luck:D

I plan to cool a 1.4 bird. I could also turn it into a chiller and force chilled air into the case as well.

One thing that will make it a lot better will be to put a high proformance fan on that radiator.

hey Morphoius, did you ever see how much those fans push/pull, mine atleast works really good, the gases enter the rad at around 90c atleast and comme out at about 21c(dont know if this would be the case with dodgeviper's cooler, but is with mine) it would probably improve the look  .

hey dodgeviper the problem with turning it into a chiller is that your system would have to be completely closed off to prevent condensation(but ,ay work really well). Also did you run it beside your system, I think that there would be alot of magnetic interferance.

I have not tried anything yet, just trying to get a few ideas if it will work as a water cooler using a block. If I do use the compressor cooler I will really clean the looks up. That fan moves a lot of air and is very quiet. I could place mini quick disconnects on the supply and return water lines and keep the unit away from my computer. Really something to mess around with. The setup is rather on the heavy side right now. It may end up inside another tower.

If you know that it belongs in a different board, please *post* it there, cause I'm just going to have to move it if you don't. Thanks.

I decided I am going to give this cooler a try. I am going to move the entire system into a mid tower that I received today. I got a small stainless tank to use as a reservoir which I heliarc a few fittings into the tank. Also this is where I will monitor the water temp with a safety to shut down the computer. I also came across a small pump. The only thing I need now is a water block which a friend has offered to make on his cnc machine.

Looks great! I work in several hospitals and have some friends in maintenance. I have 3 of them and haven't gotten to watercoolinlg yet but if you want chilled water this is a quick and easy way to get it. Plumb 'er up and plug 'er up and you got chilled water out the wazoo!;)
