My ram, GeIL PC3200 1GB kit (2x512), failed memtest quickfastinahurry when I had both sticks in, but when I have only one or the other stick in, they run indefinitely without error.
Is that normal? Could there be a problem with the RAM that only manifests in dual channel?

Yes, it is very possible that one stick is faulty but the problem only shows up when running in dual channel. I suggest that you boot to Windows using 1 stick at a time and run Prime95 for 12+ hours to see if you get any errors. This was the only way that i was able to determine that one of my Ballistix modules was faulty. Memtest86 could run forever on either module without errors, but Prime95 found errors after 1.5-2 hours when running with 1 of the modules.

Will do. Thanks!

Socket 939 rigs will usually run two doublesided sticks without issues, however there are exceptions. I think this is related to the controller's load rather than faulty memory sticks. More banks to address mean higher impedance and lower slew rate. Setting the command rate/command per clock to 2T could solve the problem.

I'm in 2T already.

Which set of Geil and at what settings?

Memtest-86 v3.2 reports 380 errors on Test 5 and 1 on test 6.
I got a badram=0x0623de40, 0xfffffffc message, too.
It's GeIL 2x512, GE5123200B, which (and I never knew this, obviously) is not actually a dual channel kit! WTH?
many many sticks that dont say dual channel...work in it
dual channel just means they work well together, same speeds, voltage, timings?

Whoops, sorry: I had the timings on auto which I believe is @ 2.5-3-3-6 and it's @ 224.2MHz & stock voltage.

Interestingly, I swapped in 2x256 (same stats as the 512, just...256) and it's blowing through Memtest where the 512 dumped.
Might have to try two different sticks of 512.

The 2x256 sticks ran all night with no issues, where the 2x512 crapped out within an hour.
I've got a set of Geil GE1GB3200BDC (2x512 & sticker says 2.5-8-4-4) I'm going to try tonight.

Well how did it do with the "looser" timings?

So far, so good. I'm going to let it run all night tonight (I was out of town yesterday ad shut things down).
In the interest of disclosure: It's possible I have mem controller issues (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=441197)
