using Partition Magic 6- cannot boot computer
anyone know how to remedy a unbootable partition after it is corrupted by a reboot while partitioning?
my computer shut down due to a power failure while partitioning a 32 GB Primary into a 27 GB primary and a 5 GB logical.
computer will not boot since main partition which contains windows is not in FAT32 format, it is instead contained in a format called PQ Flex (which i am assuming is the format that partition magic puts the drive into while partitioning and since the partition was never completed, it is thus still in PQ flex format)
i had 2 other partitions on that drive: a 5 GB logical (for mp3s) and a 1 GB logical (for the windows Swap file)
i cannot boot to any partition since it does not even recognize the PQ Flex drive as C:
i have tried all the Partition Magic Rescue Diskettes, Boot Magic Diskettes, and windows 98 Boot disk, and none of these can boot me into windows or even dos for that matter.
I am totally useless without my machine, and i really dont want to have to attempt to Format my machine.... given i can boot into dos and run Fdisk anyways..............
anyone ever have this problem?

Windows 95, Windows 98, Second Edition, NT, ME, 2000, and XP CDs are all bootable.
Just make sure CD-ROM or 1.44 floppy is the first boot option in your BIOS (Press DEL while the memory is being counted).

Yes i know that all the OS Cd's are bootable, but windows will not boot because the main partition is not in FAT32 Format, even if i tried to install windows, it would only be able to install on one of the smaller partitions since the main partition it cannot recognize.
Yes, indeed, i could boot windows, but only for a fresh install on another logical drive, since the primary is corrupted.

Boot from one of the OS CDs (In cases like Windows 95) select the option, Boot to Command Prompt With CD-ROM. The OS CD has all the tools you need to delete, create, etc partitions. I've done this dozens of times in the past.

You are going to have to delete the partition completely and create a new one. I got a corrupted partition and had to do it. I just booted using a partition magic rescue disk and deleted the partition, created a new one and all is well.

first contact powerquest technical to see if they can help you solve the problem....if not.....READ the INSTRUCTION BELOW
i'm afraid that you have to do everything over again.....if i were you and i want to play save.....i know that you have a lot of musics and important files in 1 hard drive right ? hate to see you loose all the songs
why don't you go out and buy a second hard drive...
and install 98 in this second hard drive....when everything is running....try to copy all the files and songs to a safe hard drive and try to use partition magic from the NEW second hard drive...
you may solve the problem that way.....good luck....if you are n't sure what to do....call powerquest technical support and let them walk you through the whole process of recovering your old win98 parttion
when you have partition magic run from SECOND HARD DRIVE, you may recover the old 98 parition disk
good luck...hope this help
if i were you, i would reformat and start all over

Well a format won't do anything until you remove the corrupted partition (Or both since once is logical and the other extended). Then create either a single or two partitions and format /s them both.
Geez, I knew spending nearly half my life in DOS would pay off one day :D

i assumed you knew to remove the partitions first
but, seems like you knoe how to do everything, good luck

Well, i was able to get into DOS somehow, i FDISk'd the Primary, re-installed win98, and my other partitions weren't touched, so, after all, i didn't lose all my Mp3s... but i lost all my pirated videos that were on my comp........................ grrr...................
and for some reason my comp seems to run just a tad slower since the reformat..... i really dont know why, but it probably has to do with the fact, i haven't re-tweaked it yet............
thanks everyone for thehelp........... powerquest is a bunch of morons, i e-mailed the first day, and i still haven't got a reply........

They are not morons, been using their excellent product since Partition Magic 5. I constantly use it out in the field everyday without flaw.
