View Full Version : gaaaah i think i got the wrong ram!!
well i researched into more of why my RAM was not running at 400mhz (my original post on this is titled "wrong memory timings") and advertised timings, and i found out something very interesting...(i couldnt set the BIOS or else the system would not boot into windows - changing voltages *up to 2.75* didnt work either)

(click the pic to see it better)
Top left: - tells me ive got single channel RAM, meanwhile i ordered a dual channel kit(as you can see, the Freq is not DDR400(200mhz)
All other CPU-Z pictures: it says slots one and 3 are empty, and im using slots 2 and 4. It also says the RAM part number is CXM512-3200C2. f you look at the bottom right(the actual photo), It's obvious that im using slots 1 and 2 for RAM
The sticker on the RAM's packaging says TWINX1024-3200C2PT(i couldnt get a clear shot of the sticker, but thats the model number i ordered)
Im thinking i got the wrong RAM, but i have no idea why it says single channel and that im using slots 1 and 3, and why its not running at DDR400 speeds
what do you guys think? And if i did get the wrong RAM what do i do?

Normally dual channel uses slots 1 and 3 (matching colors) and not 1 and 2, although on your board it might be different (I can't tell, that picture won't get any larger for me). Does it list the same specs for both sticks of RAM in CPU-Z? It seems like you did get at least one stick of RAM that was different from what you ordered. It even seems like (tho hard to tell b/c of picture size) that the heatsinks on the 2 sticks are different colors, which would indicate that they're different models of RAM. I would give us a link to the actual picture (instead of the small thumbnail that won't enlarge when you click it) and then contact whoever you bought it from and see if they can let you exchange the RAM for what you ordered.
Sorry if I ranted a bit too much about the pic being too small, but... lol

Remove the .th from the picture and it'll get larger.

Ah, it seems so obvious now!! *feels stupid* Lol...
Anyway... you did get the same kind of sticks, but I'd still say it's not what you ordered. They seem like 512MB sticks (CPU-Z) when you should have received 1GB sticks (from the packaging sticker). And you should be running them both in matching colored slots like I said earlier (that's why they're not dual channel). Moving them both to the blue slots may even bump them up to the full 200mhz.
sorry about the pic, i actually edited it so its not just a thumbnail, but it became a whole new thread by accident(not sure how to delete threads :\ )
but ill go try the other RAM slots now - and i did order 2 512 sticks but they have a different model# than these 2 do
unless, the set of the 2 sticks are TWINX1024-3200C2PT and each stick is CXM512-3200C2
looks like im gonna hafta call corsair on this one.... or just do some reaserch online because its abit 2 late 2 call now
so ill try what you sed n c if it makes a difference - im just annoyed that my vid card gets in the way of my ram clips so i hafta unscrew the card grrrr lol

The sticks should be CMX512-3200C2PT. Without the PT is the version with black heatspreaders, although they should work the same way, and perhaps are detected as the same in CPU-Z. The rated timings are 2-3-3-6 at 200 mhz, and you may have to set this manually in the BIOS since some memory is set to lower speeds to eliminate any possible problems due to motherboards defaulting at a lower voltage than recommended.
I just got it!!
i have the RAM running in the two blue slots now, theyre at 2.5-3-3-6(corsairs websight said its 2-3-3-6 for intel systems, and 2.5 for AMD but ill prolly go down to 2 anyway and see if it works)
its on a 1T config, DDR400 speeds, 2.5-3-3-6
well, im happy
and about the mdoel #'s - it said CMX512-3200C2PT, so i guess your right - it detects the same in CPU-Z
well, thanksfor all your help with this it saved me tons of time....
now once i get my hs/f i ordered, is time to go do some oc'ing :-D
