Just bought the TB 1.4 together with Epox 8KTA3 Pro motherboard.

Trying to OC but DON"T KNOW HOW !!!

:(

my specs are :

Creative Geforce Pro 32 m
Maxtor 40g ata 100

Pls help me to enhence or speed up my PC
:(

and how to check the temp of the CPU and the whole system

thanks

First of all throw away the 128Mb PC100, that will restrict your OC. And anyway 512Mb is enough.

Secondly what is your Heatsink+ Fan?
What is your thermal compound?

All 1.4Ghz Athlons are factory unlocked (as far as I know) so you don't have to mess with the CPU.

Ooops I did't see your Global WinCAK38

Is the system already built????/

First of all Welcome To The Forums.

Now the first thing you'll want to to do is look at the temps that you're getting,
you should be able to do this by entering the BIOS your Motherboard manual will
tell you how but normally on the first screen you see you'll have to press the
del key and a new blue screnn will flash up.
There will be a section called temperatures or if there isn't then CPU sttings or something resembling that
slect that with the arrows and press enter, it will come up with the system temp (temp in you case)
and the CPU temp. ( My recomended temps are CASE never above 40C mines at 25 all the time but i'm live in the UK!,
and the CPU never above 55C. They blow at 85C-95C and there unstable at 60C though they should NEVER EVER
run this hot.)
Now you've done this take a glance at the other sttings under Cpu setting.
There will be Cpu Frequency/Host etc, thats FSB adjustment and if your CPU's unlocked there will be Multiplier
adjustment. Look for guides to unlock, it basically using a pencil to join the L1 bridges.
Now boot into windows and check your temps, you should get a program called Via Hardware Monitor with your
motherboard CD, if not download it and Motherboard Monitor 5 (advanced ie shutdown to your specified temp etc) from
www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com
I would also reccomend getting the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers for added atbilty and speed, I think the latest is
V1.34 maybe 1.35. (Choose optimal setting when setting up and make sure there is a check in the DMA enabled box) this
really boosts your HDD performance and set AGP to Turbo.
Also download the latest drivers for your Graphics Card, if you have a NviDia / Geforce get the latest Detonator 22.50's.
Make sure you uninstall you other driver thoroughly (it will tell you how in the readme with it). Some systems benefit with
diff drivers so experiment with the diff ones, benchmarking with 3DMark 2001 (again from the ctrl-alt-del).
And last download the latest DirectX, you can download Beta drivers, these may be faster but they are test versions
still with bugs to be ironed out.
INSTALL THEM IN THIS ORDER:

1.VIA DRIVERS
2.DirectX 8/8.1
3.Video/Graphics Card.

This is the order Windowss uses them so youre less likely of problems whilst installing.
Now you've checked you're temps are they should CPU be in the 30's espcially if not oc'ed unless its a 1.4gig AMD as they are HOT!
Now go into the BIOS and Put the Multiplier up, ie from 10*100=1000 to 11*100=1100, till it gets unstable, then KEEPING EYES ON TEMPS LIKE A HAWK
raise the VCore till you reach a limit in either Heat or Processor, make a note of the fastest STABLE speed. (YOU CANNOT DO THIS WITH AN XP UNLESS ITS UNLOCKED
AMD FEW KNOW HOW TO DO THIS AS ITS DIFF SO DON'T TRY IT.
Next you want to reach that Highest speed with the FSB and the Multiplier at default. So say 10*120=1200 instead of 12*100, the reason for this is increasing the FSB
results a much bigger gain in performance as you are overclocking everything!
Ie: PCI card AGP memory as well, this means though you need quality components, (your memory doesn't look up to it its only PC100 you might wanna get Crucial Pc133 (will
get to 150 for about £25 for 256mb. From overclockers.co.uk
When it gets unstable try removing say your modem etc (upgrade mem) as one of the compnents may be holding you back,
do'nt forget though memory is one of the first to go, you might be able to get more FSB by lowering you CAs on your mem (ie mem timings in advanced chipset features in BIOS)
Lower numbers = better speed but if your mem isn't up to it then higher no's may be called for. (By SPD is what the mem is rated at not what u want).
Also other components espically the North Bridge (bit wif HSF and maybe fan under CPU (or black chip that says VIA).
WATCH THE TEMPS, you can lower you Cpu by appling a small layer of arctic silver (overclockers.co.uk or overclockingstore.co.uk) to the CPU core, take off
crummy heatpad and clean HSF and re-apply, GOOD LUCK!!!!

P.S.Look for BIOS guides to help tweak more performance out of yuor system!

If you have a Geforce Card try overclocking it look for guides n the video/sound card section of the forums! BEWARE OF HEAT!
Sorry of the Length but I like to be thorough!
