which is better for overclocking a p4 or an athlon? Athlons get hotter so wouldnt that mean they cant overclock as high as a p4?

Intel CPU's are multiplier locked and can not be unlocked however the AMD Athlon and Duron processors can be multiplier ''unlocked'' which obviously gives more flexibility when setting up a system. This makes AMD processors a very popular choice for overclockers.

Yup and considering the price of the chips I'd go with the cheaper AMD chips in case something does break It'd be lesss expensive to replace
Plus, numerous tests and benchmarks show that AMDs are just better. Like with Sandra benchmarks (cpu, multimedia, etc). Toms Hardware Guide also did a review/comparison of the AMD XP vs P4, and in the majority of the tests, AMDs were faster and are considered the "Better Bang for the Buck."

Ya pretty much the only thing the p4 beat the Athlon in was video editing/creating and such. Everything else(including gaming)the amd won.
