Have a new AMD XP 1.4 boxed with Asus A7V133 MB, CDROM, Sound Card, and Zip drive. Tower case with fan on side blowing on the CPU, exhaust fan in top of case along with power supply exhaust fan.

Asus monitor programs tells be CPU temp is 54 to 56 degrees Centigrade. I have ordered a Swiftech fan but not received it yet. Am not planning on overclocking, just want to keep things cool. Ambient temp is 77 degrees F.

Questions: What is too hot for an AMD? CMOS temp is a little lower, but not much. What temp should I get with the Swiftech fan? Thanks.

Yes those temps seem very high, especially coming from the motherboard sensor under the cpu. I use the SK6 with @ 31-33 idle and 35-38 load. This is with an overclocked XP 1800@ 1644. Did this system come already put together? If so I bet they used a thermal pad as opposed to some quality thermal grease like arctic silver 2. What heatsink do you have? I couldn't tell you what temps you might expect without knowing what you already have.

I can tell you that if you had an sk6 with good case cooling and proper installation of AC2 you should have lower temps than me.
