Has anyone used the Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu fan/heatsink?

What is your opinion on it?

Thanks for any help.

IM using it right now. Keeps things as close to ambient as possible, and cheap too.

OZYMANDES If you don't plan to O/C a lot then it's fine. You would want the 6Cu+, 7000rpm fan, at least but try & spend a little bit more to get an all copper HSF. Maybe an SK-6 would be a better alternative.

I overclock with a Volcano 5, works fine. The 6Cu is even better.

actually it isnt all copper its like the old Alpahs with copper CPU contact and aluminum fins....the sk6 is an excellent choice, right now im geting a CBG-38 its all copper and 11 bucks at svcompucycle.com, it doesnt perform that well and is beaten by higher end aluminum heatsinks, but its for my dads comp (im ordering him a nice tualatin CELLY :)).....for 11 bucks its hard to beat price/performance, but the CU+ should be a little better....

It is NOT all copper. Just a slug inserted at the bottom.

flounder43 - How much O/C have you reached with a Volcano 5? If you want a huge O/C then you will need a higher performing HSF. I remember that you saying that you don't see the reason for spending a lot of money for a HSF. That's your choice & are entitled to it as much as the next guy. I choose to spend the extra money, if I don't have it then I work for it, for a high performance HSF. This is not a flame. I hope you do not get offended by this. I just do not agree with suggesting the least acceptable product for the job.

im useing a CAK 68( with ASII ) which has a wimpy , but not loud fan (20 cfm).

ive readeched a 25 % OC with it on my new 900 t-bird @ 1131 with temps around 48c @ full load

i cant stand those 7000 rpm fans

i canīt stand either.. iīm using the Cu and it was fine until my video board died.. here in Brazil is very hot and it could keep 50c.. the same temp that I had with fop38 7000rpm..

but itīs very silent..

I was considering the Cu6 because I also hate the 7000 RPM fans. They are too noisy and anoying. I am currently gettig 52 C:eek: at full load on the Intel heatsink and fan shipped with my PIII 866 at 1040 (160FSB:D TUSL2-C). I was hoping to drop it by at least 10 C with some HS/F that is NOT 7000 RPM - any suggestions?

Sounded like a flame to me...

Anyway, temps are not a prob with my 1.0 Ghz Athlon even at 1.85 volts. 46-48 is the top that I have ever seen, usually because of high ambient temps.

I happen to have the volcano 5, but as I was saying, I would prefer the 6cu or 6cu+. Just a couple of bucks more, and I have read every review I could find, and I am satisfied with their performance.

Yes, it is my opinion, and my assessment of these HSF's. Sorry you don't agree.

I co the Volcano 6 on my 1800XP and am pretty satisfied. I was running temps around 56c when oc'ed with the stock HS. I added the volcano and some extra exhaust fans and it dropped my temps dramatically. It went down to 43c full load. Since I added the fans and volcano at the same time I can't tell U exactly what the result of the just the HS was But I think it made a tremendous difference.
