I have the 9800 pro 256.
I am thinking of getting a new Dell 24in monitor.
I am told I would not be able to run the monitor at its native resolution with my 9800.
Would the ATI X1300 be sufficient?
Is it a big improvement over my 9800?
Thanks.

The X1300 is much slower than a 9800pro. I believe the X1600 is somewhat faster, but not by a whole lot.

I would get an x800gto, I got mine for around 100, 256bit ram interface, 128mb of ram, and 12 pipes. Similar to the x1600

I would not say a big improvement. The GF 6600 is probably a better card in the same price range. But any card you buy for around $100 will be about the same as a 9800 pro. I am surprised that the 9800 pro can not pull off the 1920 x 1200 of the Dell 24". Max resolution for the 9800 pro is 2048 x 1536 @85 Hz. You may not need a new card at all.

Just my opinion, but if you are buying a $850 monitor, and you also want to get a new vid card, I would spend the extra bucks and get a much better vid card. Like the 6800GS which is on sale for $150 or a 7800 GS for $300

Why don't you get the monitor first, and see how the 9800 works with it.

If you find it too slow, then look at something faster. If it's fine, don't worry about it. :)

I was really shocked how good the 9800s still are in modern games, I had an 9800se (4 pipes, blah) at 445/405 and I can do BF2 at medium settings. I just bought it today and thought "I'll just wing it and see what happends", much to my suprise it holds out with pretty well.
