I recently loaded Windows XP. It looks great and all, but I get random lockups all of the time. I am running at stock cpu speed right now, so it is not OC related. I normally run Outlook Express, WinAmp, IE, ICQ, AOL IM, Seti@home, and some file sharing programs. When I disabled my main sound card (Philips Acoustic Edge), a lot of the lockups went away and I could run up to 6-7 programs simultaneously, but they have returned. My computer has not been stable for the 3 months that it has known electricity flowing through its veins. HELP!!!!

I'll go back to 98SE if I have to. I don't really care at this point.

um yeah lets see. never stable? ouch my XP install is fast and stable but I don't know enough to help you troubleshoot. I suggest you go 98SE with dual boot to XP that way you can test out both adn maybe get it working properly. I would look at IRQs and see if any conflicts. maybe disable ACPI. looking for article now.

I'm running NTFS so I'd have to backup about 20GB of data before I go back to 98. WinMX caused my machine to crash so I unloaded it. Still, if I'm sitting idle, it'll reboot sometimes.

As far as I know the sound card caused most of the trouble. I don't think I have any IRQ conflicts. All of my drivers are MS certified except for the sound, which is disabled.

I'm still open to all suggestions.

There is an option to turn off reboot when your puter has a problem (I'll have to find were it is) but if you disable it then maybe you can trouble shoot a little better...

Thanks. Normally the blue screen happens so fast I can't read what the problem is. Next time I'll find out, and hopefully it will help.
