will a 6600LE compare to a 9800XT close or even better?

or should i get something higher such as a 6600GT?

btw i need it to work with the Antec True Power II 430 Watt PSU

there are 2 dedicated +12 lines so i will use one for the hard drive + dvd/cd-rw drives and the other line for the the 6600LE/GT whichever one i decide to get

The 9800XT is better than the 6600LE, but for almost the same price the 6600GT would destroy the 9800XT. I think it's probably $20 more for the 6600GT, at the most, and it's completely worth it.

ooo ok... well will it work on agp 4x trying to revive an old comp of mine

any possiblility the evga 6600GT will run on 17 amps instead of 18 amps (recommended?)

b/c i just got a new power suppply not the greatest but it was new and i dun wanna have to go buy a new one...

alllsssoooo... will the P4 2.0A be a bottle neck for the 6600GT?

you should instead save the money you are going to use for the video card and just buy a new cpu/motherboard. if u have to buy a video card now, then go for a 6600gt but make sure it is for agp not PCI express.

kk thnx u two

btw going with 6600GT

Good choice, the 6600GT isn't too much of a power-hungry card so your power supply should be okay. I'm running a PCI-e 6600GT on a power supply with 16 amps on the 12v :( So, you should be okay.

well wouldn't agp be different from pci... the pci version doesn't use a molex connector am i rite?

also will a p4 2.0A ghz be a bottle neck for it?

or should i{ "I" } get something higher such as a 6600GT?

The manufacturers and chip set makers start with a usable GPU of some sort, and then cripple it to make an LE/SE. The result is overpriced and underpowered. Whether you "need" a mid-range card such as a 6600GT depends on what you plan to use the system for, and how much you can spend. Most of the better VGA cards the past year or so have needed a separate power plug, whether they were still AGP or were PCI-e.

The 9800XT needs one, and even the 9700 Pro needed one a couple of years ago. I'm not sure about the Vanilla 6600 . .

but wut about the p4 2.0A (northwood) will it be a bottle neck for the gfx card?

It might be, but if you've already bought the 6600GT it's a moot point. Or are you asking if you should get a newer CPU too?

I believe that the card draws the same amount of power, except the AGP bus can't supply enough power. While, the PCI-e can. You're right the PCI-e version has no molex connector, but we're talking about different interfaces too.
Yes, I think the 2.0Ghz P4 will bottleneck it, but that isn't a terrible CPU and you should still be able to game with it. If that's what you're concerned about.

It depends on the resolution and how much AA/AF/etc. you plan to use. At lower resolutions, yes, your CPU will be a bottleneck. When you turn up the resolution and details, the CPU won't be a limiting factor.

wait so if the resolution is higher.... the less the cpu is a bottle neck or the other way around?

i was just wondering in case if it bottlenecks it too much ill go get another cpu compatible with my mobo.

i also have a 2.8 ghz northwood too on my other comp so will that be a bottleneck maybe ill get the 2.0ghz a different gfx card

yeah...at this price point...I'd say go for the 6600GT ....I had one by XFX and was quite happy with it...it didn't OC worth a poop with the stock heatsink (piece of crapola) but when I put a Zalman VF700-CU on there I got quite a nice OC (it'a been a while so i don't remember...but it was about as high as I could find with anyone elses.)
SO I'd recommend getting the 6600GT (which is like $115 on some sites) and then spend $25 on the Zalman VF700-CU

Here's the 6600 GT AGP at Newegg that I was talking about (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150098) $116 + $4.69 Ship
Newegg also has that Zalman cooler...but it's a little more expensive there. I think I got mine at eWiz.com (I've ordered several times from them and always had great service) I think it was $24-$27 shipped

Correct.

Any CPU can bottleneck most modern midrange to high end graphics cards at low resolutions. With a better graphics card, you'll be able to turn up the resolution more.

but that also requires a high res. monitor too. should the maximum resolution be on my product document?

With my 6600GT I ran at 1024x768 in any game I played (mainly because I didn't want any lower and my monitor looked like poo at anything higher) and I had an AMD XP 2800+ overclocked to 2.2 something Ghz .....so about the same as your 2.8 ....I was quite happy with it. The only thing I can say is that my motherboard had an 8X AGp slot....so it is possible that the 4X can hinder your performance (I don't know for sure...but I'd say that's most likely the case) in which case, you probably aren't going to experience a bottleneck with your CPU or GPU but with your AGP bus.

But for me, If I couldn't spend much over $100 then I'd look at that 6600GT at Newegg $120 or so...for a good card. and it will be just fine without that Zalman cooler...just don't expect to overclock anything superb.

Another thought...if you have a MB that limits you to 4X agp....you MIGHT consider perhaps trying to save a bit and get an inexpensive MB replacement that either has 8X AGP or better yet, PCIe. You can probably pick up a MB with PCIe for $50 or maybe even less if you get a deal. (not much less tho unless it's used or semething)
And then maybe wait a month or sell your baseball card collection or something and THEN get a vid card...in which time either the 6600GT will be slightly lower or another, better card will be closer to your price range.
Good luck!

You want something in that price range - get an X800 vanilla. 256-bit bus, 12 pipes.

ok...this is off topic completely...but, IvanAndreevich, you have TEN PCs? Awesome.

Oh ywah...ON Topic .... I don't feel like looking it up...but the x800 might be the better way to go...jsut check out benchies and prices....sounds reasonable tho (if the price is as low as the 6600GT)
