Well I returned. Looks like I'll have another PC soon. Probably next month. Its only a 300mhz p2 but if it can complete a wu then i'll set it up folding. I can always try to overclock it. :D

I'll update the page tonight.

Later.

Welcome back! ;)

WELCOME back. We need all the help we can get right now. We're gaining on overclockers.com.au but we still need more power. I talked to my Physics teacher and I'm going in tommorrow at luch to (hopefully)setup his lab for folding. Or atleast half of it.

Welcome back EBOLA.
WTG ]-[itman, nice job with your teacher. We also have to watch out for Ars Technica. They are starting to move up.
Folding hard for science!!!

Welcome back Ebola :) Anxious to see the updated site.

]-[itman. That's great. Should be lots of folding power.

Dang!! A lab. Rock on!! That's what we need. If the comps in the lab where I work didn't suck so much, I'd set them up. (450 MHz P2's with 64 MB of RAM).

Anyway.

I go to a small school so it's not much of a lab. Also, i might only get half the comps folding because i think he wants half of them still crunching for set. If it wasn't for the 1/2 it would be a decent folding lab but with the 1/2 still crunching seti it won't give that many WU's but it'll do more than i can.

Those 450's are capable of putting out 1 or 2 points/day each. Look at what Stromlo High did with all of those 333 Cyrix machines. Wouldn't want you to get into trouble at work though.

For reference I'm getting a few units in running P133s. They don't always complete in time, but I'd say they do about half the time. Is there a file i can look at that will tell me exactly what they've completed?

In any case, anythign PII and better should be able to fold reliably. I suspect the cutoff is more like P200, but a PII should be able to crank out 4 or 5 WU per week and then some. So if there are 20 PIIs out there waiting to be used that would give us an extra 100 per week at least. As tight as this race is, that could make all the difference.

Good point, nihili, good point. A little is better than none at all. ;)

I'd like to add that:

a) I agree that every little bit helps. A bunch of small stuff equals a few big things so anything is good :D .

b) to that end, look at the thread Ploaf had about a Win2K server install script. The thread is here (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44442) . If the lab machines are not Win2K or NT, the script could easily be modified to install FAH on to any machine that you need. Then, put it and your client.cfg on a floppy and you could install on many PCs VERY EASILY (providing permission has been given).

Nobody take this the wrong way, but if you need the script modified in some way to be used on whatever platform, I'd be happy to help. I program for a living so it should not be too hard to figure out. But, if you can do it, cool. Just offering my skills to the team.

Fold On !

Hmmm, darn, my computer crashed. Kinda funny, the dsl modem went at the same time. So now I have a new net card and a new sound card (why does audigy name sound so silly?). Well, I like the gold plated connectors anyway.

And to prove it all works (after a whole week in pieces) I made a thingy wotzit with lightning that my bro filmed in Romania a couple of weeks ago.

Now, back to folding...

It can do a WU but it is slow-my girls HP 300 with 192ram took a few days to do its first WU. Its now on its second and it seems to be doing better-I think she shut down the comp for a while the first time. My 500 laptop does about 1-1.5 a day. Hey it all helps the cause.. Its great that u are donating to the cause -cause we need the Help!

It looks like one of the servers went down last night and it's not accepting any work. None of the work that my machines through the night was turned in. :(

Wow! busy thread. Welcome back Ebola. Anything you can bring online will help. And by the way, the page looks great. Thanks. ]-[itman, super job getting those 'puters for us. Ploaf - nice avatar - wonder why no one thought of that before... We got some real dedicated folders around here but you've certainly earned it. DeepScience, I like your thingy wotzit too. :p
