I'm running a intel 3.73 ghz processor on a Asus P5WD2 Premium with a Zalman CNPS9500 heatsink. at start up its jumps up to 60-62 C than on idle its around 50-54 C but I throw in some UT04 and it runs around 65 C so... should i try to reinstall the heat sink or is that how hot these chips usually run? and I don't have it oc so what do you guys think? how hot is to hot? suggestions?

that heatsink is not going to beable to handel that cpu, reseating or applying different thermal paste will make little to no difference.

the heat sink is supposed to be a rated for a an intel EE ? it runs around 2700rpms its one of the faster fanned heatsinks. I know Im not the only one in these forums with this processor. what heatsinks do other people here have with successful temps?

2700rpm is nothing i have 4 heatsinks with 15000rpm fans :)
not many people have that EE, I have the 3.4ghz EE and i just use the stock intel sink.
your going to need TOP end air if you want to keep your temps reasonable with that chip, and honestly i dont know what the good sinks are for that. With that processor i would just start thinking about water if you want cool and quiet.

Reinstall the heatsink with AS5. That heatsink should be fine for that CPU. It is in the top 5 for air cooling.

well this is my first build and I was wanting to try to avoid me and water if i could but I guess if your going to do it right you might as well do it right? what about those masscool cases with the A/C? anybody have any experience with those? all I've seen are reviews and I was wondering about condensation? or is that another thread?

they are just a waste of $$, good highend air, or mid range water will do much better.

thanks category 5 thats what I was thinking, hey what temp does your cpu run at?

so vaporchill or prometeia ah? looks like Is should start saving and checking ebay.

If you want your load temps to be around 40-45c then your gonig to need water, if you dont care about the $$ then go with phase :) but you can get mid 50c out of higher end air.

Im running a thermaltake big typhoon on my 506@4260. load temps are about 48 while folding.

I'm a newbie to this forum so I hope anyone can help me with my problem.
I have a MSI PT880 Neo Mobo, and upgraded the CPU from a P4 2.66 to a 3.4 Extreme Edition (SL7E6). Memory is 1GB PC3200 Corsair XMS. My problem is when I first booted the computer, I looked in the BIOS and saw that the CPU temp was at 180 degrees!!!! My CPU cooler is a Vantech CopperX(It might be too small). If there's anybody out there who can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
The CPU I had was a P4 2.66 HT 478 533FSB/512k cache
The new one is a P4 Extreme Edition 3.4 HT 478 800FSB/1MB cache.(SL7E6)
According to the manual the mobo can accept the new CPU

180 Celcius of Farenheit? If it says celcius the temp diode is off. The EE will definately not run at 180C. If it's 180F, then it's ~82C which is VERY high. I don't know anything about that HS, so I'll leave it to someone else. I always suggest the SI-120.
aaasniper : First of all, what processor are you running?
That heatsink is a very good heatsink, and should be able to cool nearly anything out there at the moment (maybe not a highly overclocked 8_0D).

I'm running a intel 3.73 ghz processor
I was hoping for a model number, which would tell me if it were single vs dual core, and 90nm vs 65nm, without having to go browse the intel product lists. ;)
Also I'm not sure if he means that is stock speed, or overclocked speed.

My Temps on my 830 Dual core with the same heatsink are 41 idle and about 61 running dual Primes. I'm usually at or under 50 most of the time. OC'ed to 3.75 I idle at 45 but load temps max out at about 67-68 so I just run stock. This is my office PC and it is plenty fast at stock.
Either way, your EE should be real cool with the 9500 properly installed. My 3.4 Prescott OC'ed to 3.85 never got above 62 with that heatsink, in an airflow starved case.

It's Farenhiet. The CPU cooler is a Vantech CooperX CCK-7025.

thanks category that gives me a rough idea. right now I'd be happy with mid 40's instead of mid 50's. maybe i 'll try another install on the heatsink this weekend and if that don't work i ll be getting a new PS cause the PS has a 120mm fan blowing staight down on the heatsink. the case that i bought made it to where i have to install the PS upside down so...you know

Well i installed it again twice first time i installed it and it was running 59-62 c hotter so i put a little more grease and now its back to 50-54 c. then i run it with the case cover open and i got 45C idle? so i don't know?

That sounds like you need a few more case fans - or better ones that move more air. What's your system temp sniper? With side on? With side off?
How many case fans and what direction do they blow (in or out of the case)?

with side on its 50-54c idle and load its 58-65c
with side off its 40-45 idle and around 55 load
3 case fans and ps they all blow out
