View Full Version : Is everyone requiring signature on delivery now?

I haven't bought any parts for a while, so now that I've started buying things for my next build I'm a little irritated to see that signature on delivery is turning up. I've made two purchases recently, one from Monarch and one from CensusPC, and both times I've found a UPS slip saying a signatures in person is required on delivery. It's understandable that merchants want to make sure that the package made it to the customer, but don't they realize that most people can't be sitting at home all day waiting for the UPS guy? Are all the merchants doing this now, or is this some new UPS policy?

Thats why i ship everything to my office, that way there is always some one to sign for it.

Only time I ever had that problem was with my P180, and I'm guessing that was just because it's so heavy. All the other packages (all from newegg) that came that night were left by the door.

I've gotten a few packages from a couple of suppliers, that state they require sigs, and an un-named (UPSomething) shipper just leaves them on the doorstep.

Newegg may require sigs, but their chosen shipper isn't complying.

I have never had that issue, but then again I signed a waiver saying that could leave it.

I was going to sign the waver on the slip so the shipper would just leave the package on the next delivery attempt, but it specifies that it must be in person.

We require signatures on ALL packages, and we won't accept the "Signature waivers" either - someone has to physically sign for the package.

I understand this is a major pain in the butt for a lot of people, but, I don't have a choice. Any e-commerce company that sells valuable items has to require them, thanks to all the thieves and scammers in the world.

Also, consider that requiring a signature means your expensive packages don't get left on the porch for some random person to steal.

*Yes, UPS/FedEx will still sometimes leave packages even when there is a signature requirement. It's actually up to the individual driver to enforce it, and they can leave any package at thier discretion. However, if said pacakage turns up missing, they are on the hook to replace it (I think that's how it works) so there is an accountability factor there.

It's an inconvenience until your package is left on the portch and stolen. One of my packages was stolen from my front door after I signed a waiver that authorized the FedEx driver to leave it. Guess who came to my rescue...NOBODY. Luckily it was only a pair of $50 shoes, and not one of the expensive electronics items I usually buy online.

I guess shipping people here a lot more lax than anywhere else. Everytime UPS or fedex delievers a package to me they just scan it and hand it off to me. I even ask them if they need me to sign anything. They say nah dont worry about it. It concerns me because any little punk could make off with my stuff
