I was wondering... I am looking into getting a socket 1 mobo with maybe a 900 duron... how much do u think i could overclock it with a GOOD air system and how much do u think i could overclock it with a peliter or water cooling?

Welcome to The Forum mregoff.
Firstly I think you mean a Socket A motherboard for a Duron CPU. Overclockability will depend on the stepping code marked on the CPU. You might want to take a look at the CPU Database here http://www.overclockers.com/ it will give you an idea of speeds achieved using various CPU's and different cooling methods.

The 900s aren't really known for overclocking..you could probably get a similar speed from just about any Duron. If you want to get a good oc with a Duron you need to get one that has a Morgan core (1000 and up, I believe). I would say that with a TEC you might be able to get the Spitfire cores up to somewhere around 1.3 (probably the absolute limit, there), or with good air cooling around 1.1.

So you are saying is go for maybe a 1 Ghz processorand then maybe oc to a 1.1 with air cooling?

I just built a Duron system using a 750 and an ECS motherboard and was easily able to overclock it up to 1000.

From what I have seen Durons do not go well above 1 GHz but most Duron 600s and up will do 1000.

Nice thing was I did not have to unlock my multiplier to get the overclock, just closed the L7 bridges for more core voltage and put the FSB up to 133. Don't dwell too much on what I just said. Read all the articles you can from 'Tips' section on the front page of OC.com for more overclocking info and it will become clear. Or just ask if you read up and still have questions. :)

I don't want to bog you down with all the tech stuff above, but I am recommending getting a slower Duron and going for 1 GHz.

Durons are great 'bang for your buck' chips. Plus they are inexpensive so if you fill one while experimenting it doesn't set you back too many duckets.

Oh, and welcome to the forums !:)

If you get a 1Ghz Tbird you can probably OC it to 1.3 or maybe a bit higher with air. :)

I'll keep this in mind :D
