Get triple image (three across) with my new xp on first screen.

Goes away after I click on one or two program icons.

Is this a windows problem or monitor problem? Thank you.

Sorry, don't know what a screenshot is.

Looks like a triple exposure of a photo, side by side w/ a little overlap. Thank you. L

I would say Windows. Are the two mirror images where the main image was and they just don't go away, or are they just kind of there by themselves on the side. Fixing it could be tricky though, I hate to suggest a repair install but it might be best bet. Also update all your chipset and graphics drivers. Also does this happen with anything else or just this one screen?

Edit: Oh and a screen shot or SS is a picture of your monitor, you can take it in windows with the print screen button on your keyboard. If it is the boot screen though before windows is loaded you would have to use a camera.

They are exact (not mirror) images, opaque, on the right of the "real".

Everything is new. Just bought the computer Friday.

< Also does this happen with anything else or just this one screen?>

Begins with blue xp screen, after boot b & w screen.

Happens when I click into solitaire, too. Haven't tried anything else.

Can't get the screen shot now because I'm downloading new driver for my scanner (xp won't take old driver).

Yikes! This is becoming a big job.

Thank you. L

You shouldnt need a driver for the scanner to take a screenshot. Even though its a new system some files could be messed up already so a repair install might still help. If it is new though I would reocmmend you go online and check for all new drivers first though. If it does happen in more then one place its most likly something to do with your graphics card or the connection. It also could be the monitor if it is happening with other applications, though it would most likly happen all the time if it were the monitor. What kind of graphics do you have, like is it an integrated card or is it something like an Nvidia or Ati?

Edit: Also what kind of display do you have?

Doesn't do it each time. Can't figure out rhyme or reason.

Tried screen shot and it looked fine, not triple when I pasted it.

Have regular old monitor.

Hmm, if it's not there on a screnshot I would think it's most likly your monitor or graphics card have some type of malfunction like a lose wire. Is there anyway you can get to another monitor and try it out on it for a couple of days or just multipul restarts?

Unplug your monitor from tha back of the PC, and see if there are any bent, or broken pins.

You also say it seems fine, until it loads into the blue xp screen. Can your monitor support the resolution the PC is set at?

Try booting into Safe Mode, and see it if does the same thing. Right after the BIOS screen, press F8 if ya didn't know how.

P.M. me and I'll give you my email address; you can email it to me and I'll host it for you.

Or, you could upload it to something like ImageShack and use the insert image feature in the message/reply to window.

Don't know whether you can see these very well. It's now a double image, one superimposed halfway on the other.

BTW, it's very difficult to see text on this site (white on black). Is there a way I can make text bold or change font or colors for easier viewing?

Another question: which ext is best to use to store photos and upload? jpeg, bmp or tiff?

Those are only thumbnails of the image.

Is the actual image you want. As for the problem it almost looks like the monitor is projection it twice, once in the green spectrum and once in the blue. So I would say its most lilkly the monitor. Though it is kind of hard to tell with that image, is it happening all the way accross the screen, or just within those boxes? Either way though i recommend you take your rig to a friends house and try it on thier monitor or try a new graphics card. As for forum color, I do not believe there is a way to select your own. For the extension, bmp tends to usually keep best quality but is very large, so jpeg is probably the best bet.

Edit: Also can you take a screenshot with the Print Screen button located on your keyboard (top right most likly) and post it. That way we may be able to tell if its your monitor or a software issue depending on if it appears correct or not for us.

If it looks fine when you past it that means the actual image is fine when it leaves Windows. So its most likly then your monitor, though its still possible its your graphics card. Really only way to tell is to connect to to a new monitor and try it.

Thank you. I'll try it and let you know.

Everyone has been great. ST
