I'm keeping my pelted 7800-gtx sli'ed cards. They do just as good as a stock 7900-gtx from the leaked benchies I've seen. Not worth it IMHO to upgrade for a little better OC. (never thought I'd be saying that.. :eh?: )

I read that it runs cooler than go 6800 ultra, I don't care about how much heat or power it consumes. I leave my lappy in one place, too heavy and too big to carry around

But the memory is much more powerful on the 7900s... and the core is 90nm...

Not missing much, but enough to be worked up about... but hey, that's what you get when you go high-end all the time. You're always aware that it won't be high-end for long.

Guys, I dont know too much about this, but it seems like a really good deal. Is this pny better than the $350 evga 7800gt with the free mobo? For $60 less it seems like an awesome deal. When did the 79's come out? Are these cards the direct-x 10's? From what you can see in my sig, could I support this card? And lastly, could I cool this thing ok with air? I don't plan to OC or water cool any time soon.

value is in the eye of the beholder. if your 7800gt plays everything you want at decent settings, then theres no need to upgrade. the 6800gt kept its 'value' longer because they didnt release anything newer. nvidia couldve kept developing the 79xx series and got 32pipes on it but they wanted it released sooner to compete with the x19xx series. it does kind of suck that they are debuting the 7900GT for the same price as the 7800gt but thats what ebay is for. you lose maybe $30 after ebay and paypal fees and overall price vs. a brand new one and then you pay the difference for the new card.

I bought a 7800GT a week ago from Newegg but they're letting me RMA it back with $25 off of restocking fee if I bought the 7900 version. I said sure and upgraded to the GTX version of the 7900. Works good for me. :) <3 Newegg

The 7900 is definitely better than the 7800GT. The 7900gt is better than the 7800GTX and is much cheaper. I'd rather get the 7900gt and a good motherboard. You're saving 50$+ from getting the 7900gt and you can take that $50 and add a bit more money and still get a decent motherboard. The 7900's came out yesterday. They are NOT directx 10 cards. Of course you can cool it with air, all video cards come stock with air coolers.

Thanks for the help man. Just one final question. When you say the 7900gt is better than the 7800gtx, do you mean that they ALL are? Meaning, the cheapest 7900gt is better than the most expensive 7800gtx? Thanks for the help again, gonna try and order one soon.

Edit: Oh, and what would be a "good" motherboard in your opinion? This is the one I have now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135177

There's different variations of both. Trust me, you do not want a 7800GTX now that the 7900GTS are out. The 7900Gt's are cheaper and more power efficient and are based on a lower manufacturing process (80nm). When I say 7800GTX, I'm talking about the 256MB version. The 512 version is called 7800GTX 512. The 7900GT is also 256MB and is even faster than the 7800GTX and costs much less because of the shrunken die and less amount of resistors resulting in lower costs. So in short, if you're debating on whether to buy 7900GT or 7800GTX (256MB), without a doubt in my mind you should get the 7900GT or even the 7900GTX which is faster and has 512MB of memory.

That board is fine. It's got an average 4/5 stars from more than 200+ reviews and supports both NVRAID, AMD64, Onboard audio, Onboard LAN, DDR400, and PCI-Express.

If I were you, I'd buy a 7900GT and keep your current motherboard.

i disagree, ecs boards are pieces of ****. thats why frys sells them. i bet ecs has its employees write all those reviews cuz i work at a computer store and EVERY computer that came in with an ECS mobo for repair has been because of blown capacitors. they literally have like a 70% failure rate in the first 3 monthes
