I bought the alpha8045 and i can see that it is touching a capasitor (sp?), should i bend the capasitor so they don't touch, or should i just leave them touching....?

(obviously, i'm no electrician)

repost from amd mobo forum..i guess this would be the correct place to pose such a question.

I have a capacitor touching my Glaciator on my ASUS, so I wouldn't worry about it. :)

When you say "touching" do you mean that there is a capacitor right on the edge and sitting up against the side of it, or do you mean that the bottom of the Heatsink it resting on the capacitor and therefore not making good contact with the CPU? If it's the former, you're just fine, bend it slightly and very carefully if you wanna, otherwise don't. If it's the latter, you're pretty well screwed. You could desolder it and run wire leads to the place it once sat and mount it remotely, but I wouldn't recommend this as it can be very hard to solder/desolder mobo components, and the extra delay added by the wire leads could mess up timings. Everything on the board is designed so electrical signals all get to where they're going at a certain point, add an extra 3 inches of wire, and you mess up all the engineering that the mobo designers did... So yeah... you make the call.
