Hey guys,

So as the title states, I am having trouble getting rid of some Virus/Spyware. I really don't have much experience with this type of stuff so before I do anything I wanted to post for some advice.

Here is what I have done. I had a drive go bad on me to I stuck my old media drive in there and put in the w2k disk. Now the drive originally had 3 partitions. I put W2K on the E (F and G were the other ones) and when windows loaded up I got this popup telling me to go to registrycleanerxps.com or something... ****ed that I spent the time loading windows I decided to reinstally W2K and delete all partitions. Did this and still get the popups. The popup is a grey box with only a "ok" buttong and an "X" at the top right to close it. (don't think that the X works tho, it only brings up a new box telling you to go to another site) So I installed adaware which comes up with nothing.

What should I do? I searched the sites that it comes up with in the popup box in google and came up with a couple of sites that have stuff to try but it was time to sleep so just saved the page. There was VERY little info out there. I am talking less than 10 sites having info on this.

Thanks!

Sorry if the post is a little confusing. Tough to write this at work.

I thought only SP2 Took care of it, but I have OEM CDs for my gateway, so I may not have SP1 To begin with either.

Had something similar. Turned out to be a piece of bundled software (Pro Magic Plus) trying to get me to register.

Hey guys. So I did as told and turned off Messenger and that took care of it. It did take a restart to get it to work just to let you know.:)

Thanks for all the help!!

Pretty sure it was SP1. I dont remember having this messenger pop-up issue since about 2002. Back before I had a windows disc with SP1 on it, when I did an install, I usually got a few pop-ups before I installed SP1, then it all stopped.
