First time I here this absurd suggestion and, ironically, it comes from Ars Technica's forums:

ok 2 months ago i was getting all the stuff ready for watercooling. i got a pump, radiatoer, and tubing. all i needed was a water block. then... the XP came out. i now here that i have to sand down the freaking chip to overclock. i geuse FSB is fine but still i prefer mulitpliers better. so is it really worth it to go buy a $40 or more water block? btw i got the pump and radiater free. thats why im wondering. how hard is it really to sand this down even if i did which i think i won't

He goes even further on to say he's heard people successfully unlocking XPs with dremels!!

Any truth to this?

I've read of this at AOA, Icrontic, and Anandtech. Man...taking a Dremel to your cpu just doesn't sound good. Scary.

So did I. If I remember correctly Andy sanded the L7s and worked out fine. Someone else did it to the L1s successfully. Sounds like a lot of work to me!:)

Edit: That was at AOA!

You can always sand blast your new CPU to make it an easier task than using a plain old sheet of sand paper on your xp. Better yet use a belt sander. :D

There's a good article about unlocking XP's on the
www.overclockers.com frontpage........

I heard the best way was to use an angle-grinder to unlock the L7's........:D

Gotta pay the cable bill...lol

BTW...time for this one to go over to the "AMD cpu's" topic..

Some people should have to take some kind of computer literacy test before purchasing parts.

I definitly have to agree with that one but where did that come from?
