Whenever I log into the conputer at work, Win NT 4.0, I get a "system32" window that has a bunch of icons that I have no idea how to stop from popping up at log in. About the only thing this does is slow down the log in time. How the heck do I permanetly remove this?? Also, there is no defrag installed. Don't know if that's normal but I may be able to speed things up if I could defrag the hd.Stupid thing is a P2 something and runs slower than a 486!! Are there any free downloadable defrags out there in Internet land? Maybe I can do something with it cause my company refuses to
Thanks

The reason you're getting a 'system32' box that pops up is because your system is running a log-in script. This will be setup by the company IT dept. and is obviously required for one reason or another (additional drive mapping is a common one).
NT generally keeps its drives in much better condition than 9x (can't remember if it actually defrags on the fly or not), there are 3rd party defraggers for NT but unless the PC is quite old you likely won't need them.
NT is also very memory hungry rather than processor-intensive, it runs best on at least 64Mb, preferably 128 or more.

Thanks for the info Violator, on both accounts. I guess I'll be forced to live with it:(

you have 2 options to combat this login thing
1-
unless you know how to write the Window Script to alter the login script and make it fit your need..............just ask your IT for that scripting.............just look into it and change it if you know how........( if you know how to write VBScript or JavaScript, you absolutely know how to write this window Script........no need to learn).......
2- you can control your OS operating by using its group policy..........if you have Administer privilage..............
about the defragment tool.....................ever heard Diskeeper?
i use this tool for many years..........they are fast and effective...........they have 2 versions............1 lite FREE...(Microsoft get this lite version and put it into windows me and windows xp)........and another you have to pay for it..............why don't you head to diskeeper web site and download it..............
hope this help
