View Full Version : cleaning fans
recently my fans have been getting noisier. i'm assuming they need a good cleaning. any recomendations on what to do or what not to do when cleaning them. would a damp cloth be sufficient.
A damp rag is fine for the outside but the noise might be caused buy insufficient lubrication of the bearins/bushings inside the fan. You will need light oil or ceramic grease, my choice, for lubrication. You might need to lighten the grease a little with some oil for it to get in there.

Step 1. Take the side of your case.
Step 2. Turn your PC on.
Step 3. bring the garden hose in through the window
Step 4......well you know the rest.
:D
I just use an old soft paintbrush, the soft bristles allow you to get to the centre of the fan without too much effort.

You can also use one of those canned air cleaner things. But some of those biggo dust balls may need a brush or cloth to prey out. :D
